Nearly 500 generals, admirals and former national security officials from both parties endorsed former Vice President Joe Biden on Thursday, and blasted President Donald Trump as "not equal" to the challenges of the job in a letter released Thursday.
The letter, signed by 489 members of the group called the National Security Leaders for Biden, includes former Obama administration Defense Secretaries Ash Carter, Chuck Hagel and Leon Panetta, along with former Navy Secretary and NASA administrator Sean O'Keefe, who served under both former Presidents George H.W. and George W. Bush. Among the retired senior officers is Air Force Gen. Paul Selva, who until last year was the vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff under Trump.
"The current President has demonstrated he is not equal to the enormous responsibilities of his office; he cannot rise to meet challenges large or small," the group writes. "Thanks to his disdainful attitude and his failures, our allies no longer trust or respect us, and our enemies no longer fear us."
it is apparent that the handbook comes out by timezone, and some folks are on the West coast.
It is obviously troubling to hear that actual military leaders believe and say these things about Trump. Sadly, after being troubled to hear them come out and say it, I naturally wonder why.
"I know more than the generals" is stupid Trump bluster and arrogance. Did he do things off-mike to make them feel that way?
Since Trump seems convinced to remove us from foreign conflict, are they mad that the Armed Forces won't be as important? Anybody who rose to command between 1975 and 1989 didn't have a lot to do. But from 1990 to now - lots of "real war". I mean, it's human nature to say "I'm the top dog, and let me show you."
As to "allies don't trust or respect us, enemies don't fear us" ... well ... did our enemies fear us under the last Administration? I'm sure our allies liked us a lot more - we never asked them to pull their weight in any international organization.
The establishment hates Trump. We get it.. corruption all through the government. Trump is for the American people. We get it.. Finally a president that can't be bought.
Trump has not been kind to the warmongers, but he is a soldier's best friend. Trump has no intent of sending young men off, only to return in a box. Give peace a chance for a change.
There are more than 500 active men and women in our military who's opinion
is just as important if not more than a half a Chiliad of retired generals. I would
ask them as well.
