That is what my husband and I plan to do, on Election Day, at our assigned polling place.

I'm looking forward to it. Our polling place is at a church up the road from us. Those polling volunteers (all older ladies) must have more than a dozen grandkids amongst themselves involved in various high school sports at the school district where I work (I'm a high school cafeteria cook). I also prepare the food and serve at the various banquets for our teams (unfortunately, those were put on hold last year for the Covid). They recognize me when I go in to vote, still wearing my cafeteria scrubs, and always ask what's being served on the upcoming (whatever sport's) banquet menu, say how much they loved the roast beef (or Italian sausage, or baked chicken) at the last one, etc., etc. And they recognize me from DH's name, next to mine on the register (because he's ALWAYS at least in the first five, if not the first, to vote on any election day in our district).

In my old neighborhood I used to enjoy seeing all my neighbors at the polls. It was a nice sense of community and fun conversations. A couple of years ago we had a local election in my new area. Naturally I went over to cast my vote in person. It was most uncomfortable to be honest. First of all, people were walking through the line handing us ballots and telling us to fill them out. They were also collecting them saying to people they will drop into the slot for us.

I stayed in line for the actual voting process. In the end, there were just a few flimsy stations where you could punch holes in the voting card. They never checked the roster for my name nor my husband's. I doubt it will be any different this year. It was disappointing to see such breaches of the once secure process. Makes me feel we're a 3rd-world country out here in CA.
