If the Democrats are smart, they will find a way to control themselves here, and she will get 70 votes.

I find her beliefs very odd, and don't understand how she can square serving as an equal with men on the Supreme Court if she beliefs her ability to make judgements and decisions is inferior, based on her gender alone.

But she's better than what I thought we'd be getting in a nominee, as in, she's not strident and hateful and racist.

So there's that.

Nice rational post. I assume then you do not support packing the courts. I will remind all when those such as RBG who was liberal were nominated, the GOP Senators supported the choice for the most part, recognizing it is the sitting president's right to pick, and their vote should strictly be based on the merits of the candidate's record in adjudicating, indifferent to where their pov falls on the liberal/conservative spectrum.

You're right. I don't, even though that seems to be an idea advocated by many liberals.

My aunt is a federal judge in NY, appointed by Bill Clinton. Trust, she does not have armed security outside of the courtroom.

The Marshals do, however, generally provide round-the-clock protection for Supreme Court justices. Simply put, the Marshals service doesn't have enough members to provide non-courtroom security for all federal judges. It's just like how the Capitol Police provide protection for Congress generally, but only round the clock protection for members of the congressional leadership.

One has to be daft to take that statement to mean all leftists pose a threat to Judge Barrett's safety That statement stands for the proposition that any threats of violence that the judge and her family faces will likely be from leftists given the ideological opposition to her nomination.

I think she should be swiftly confirmed.

Trump could not have made a better choice.
