They did not know. November is Flu Season in China just like the US. It wasn't until late December when there were like 16 cases in a single day.

The common thread was that all those people had attended a banquet where fish and shell-fish had been served.

A reasonable person might reasonably conclude that fish or shell-fish were the cause, but as other cases were discovered that were unrelated to those who attended the banquet, it became clear it was an airborne pathogen.

There is probably a memo like this every single day, from somewhere or other - you think no other nations right now have a sprouting of something possibly strange and contagious. Every. Day.

Most - nearly all - are not concerning. There was no reason to think this one was different. Means nothing.

At that stage,.,.the entire world wasn't on high alert about it. Maybe partly becasue China is pretty tight with this sort of thing and/or they themselves underestimated it.

I was IN CHina in January. When I got there it was treated like some bad event,..but local to Wuhan. By the time I left, we were all in emergency, gtfo, mode. Closures, Checkpoints,.etc,. It escalated fast.

I don't blame Trump or any politician for a force of nature. It would of reached us no matter what. We would of had to close down everything regardless. If we even tried to do that 'before' it became an international emergency and before people understood the severity they would of been pissed and the media would go on about some fascist takeover. Well,.they still do,..but the reasons change.
