There is a notion among some people the secularism is an evolved form of human sociability.
However every society in history has been spiritual in some way, because humans are all irrational beings.
Now some people cling to different concepts as their deity. Love, power, wealth, celebrity, or ancestry as their shrine of worship.
Progressives claim to be secular in their inclinations, but their political engagement is what gives them purpose. They obsess over political figures like Obama and Pelosi because politics is their faith that they value above all else.

Utter NONSENSE! Many people who believe religious dogma of any flavor should have no influence on US law are still spiritual and/or involved with organized religions despite nonsense claims to the contrary.

I agree. I once remember celebrating the decline of religiosity around the world, thinking that it was a sign of intellectual progress. But now that I see theistic religion being replaced by progressive cult worship, I'm starting to think that maybe religion IS necessary to prevent society from collapsing. I may not believe in Christianity, but it sure is a more well-polished ideology than any political ideology.
Evangelicals make up a significant portion of Trump's base. They claim that the reason they support Trump is because he is a "Christian," and that he will appoint pro-lifers to the Supreme Court and the rest of the judiciary. They buy into the falsehood that there is a "war on Christmas," and thank God that Trump has "won" this non-existent war. Conservatives in general want to make private Christian schools eligible for government assistance, etc., etc.
