From an American perspective WW2 marked the beginning of become the global super power. A lot of pain and a lot of gain. COVID marks the beginning of the USA falling into a rapid decline and likely splitting into several smaller nations. A lot of pain and no gain. Our govt has been exposed as being to divided and inept to do anything on the economic or health problems. We now depend on Russia and China to develop vaccines for us.

Definitely COVID. The way COVID spreads and imposes fear on anyone (everyone is susceptible). It's shut down the economy, affected everyday joys and pleasures, etc. Of course I wasn't around during WW2, so I'm not really qualified to compare lol.

We're in the 4th sentence again right now, still trying to fight off those weak men. Not sure how much longer we can hold them off judging by how many threw a giant hissy fit over the virus and how many are willing to vote for the current Dem party!
That was back when men were men and fish were fish. These kids today could never handle a war like that.

Definitely perspective-dependent. My father grew up in WWII England and then after peace was declared as an older teen he moved with his father and 2 siblings to war-ravaged Germany for a couple of years. My grandfather was a telephone repairman who spoke German - unusual for an Englishman at the time - so they were sent there so he could help restore communications. My father is still alive now and sharp as a tack and it's interesting to hear him compare the two. He has said they really can't be compared because the differences outweigh the similarities but he acknowledges WWII is the only other thing in his long life that is comparable. But from our discussions I would say WWII was much worse. In some ways it has been sanitized through movies and popular culture for those who did not live through it. Nightly blackouts and hiding from bombings and rationing beyond anything that we have seen do not compare. And the death toll in WWII was mich worse.

The deaths in WWII were, for the majority, remote in nature. Family had no way of knowing in most instances that their loved one had perished until weeks after they'd been killed.

My own mother got a telegram handed to her on two separate occasions on her front porch stating her husband had been wounded in action with the rest of it being the typical "Nature and extent of his wounds are not known at this time. Further information will be provided as soon as it becomes available."

In both those instances it took exactly 21 days until she got another telegram telling her he had recovered from his wounds and had been returned to action. That type of terrible uncertainty happened to literally thousands upon thousands of families during the wars. Not even being on the same continent as the victim brings with it all of the pain and anguish that you can imagine.

Covid is not as bad because you as an individual can take precautions to ensure you do not become one of the victims. Combatants have no such choice, they must do as ordered regardless of the risk. You aren't being ordered to go around risking your life by not wearing a mask or observing some form of crowd avoidance. You also quite probably have a family support unit encouraging you to do so. They at least will know if you become ill and to what extent your illness has progressed almost immediately.

That is just one of the differences between a pandemic and a war on foreign shores.

The hysteria over covid is too much. 3 million Americans die in a typical year. And people are crapping themselves over this? Countless millions died in WWII and the weirdos think COVID is worse? The spanish flu killed 50,000,000 people. COVID won't end up killing 20% of those that died from the Spanish flu. And what was the world's population in 1920 vs today?

Just lock yourself up in the damn basement if you are so scared. If you are old, obese or sickly you should certainly be very careful for the time being, but people have nuts with it.

Thank you. The Global over reaction to Covid has replaced Man Made Climate Change as the way for the Left to install Marxist Tyranny they've wanted for a long time. Resist.
