Gen. Milley, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, along with almost the entire JCS are now in quarantine after the the vice commandant of the Coast Guard tested positive for coronavirus. He was in the Pentagon last week for joint meetings.
The military increased covid testing after Milley and other senior DOD officials attended a WH reception last Sunday where Trump (and Melania) were present. The Coast Guard is working with the CDC to contact trace.
Congress’s attending physician is also working with DC health authorities to trace contacts of known cases on Capitol Hill. Since it became clear the White House was a hot spot, more than 40 U.S. senators along with numerous congressional aides have been tested since late last week.
On Monday, the White House once again refused CDC offers to help trace covid-19 cases connected to that outbreak.
I saw that on the news but wasn't sure if the JCS had come into contact with Trump and the First Lady or not. Thanks for posting.
I'm glad the CG is working with the CDC with contact tracing. Hopefully, they'll get truthful answers out of this administration.
Trump told them it was fake, then he told them it was going away. As recently as this week he told them not to be afraid of it. His leadership sent the message that masks don't help, and his examples showed him going maskless WHILE he is diagnosed.
I won't offer an opinion about the competency of people who blindly follow his advice, but he has been negligent and incompetent in every aspect of his handling. I guess you have painted yourself into a corner now. Are you saying that people should follow every word a sitting president says or should they think for themselves. If they follow an incompetent leader, does that make them incompetent in your eyes?
For me, I think he is PARTLY responsible for a lot of those 200k deaths. Had he followed the proven playbook that Obama/Biden left him, we'd be doing 'at least as good as the rest of the world'. Instead, we are rock bottom.
Trump is overseeing and "leading" the final decline of America. It was already in slow decline, that was not his fault. He just accellorated it, and that is his fault.
Everyone says the SARS handling was abysmal. And Obama/Biden used up the stock of PPE and never replaced while watching all production go to China.
And Trump was stopping travel from China while Democrats called him a racist. He has handled a lot of things very well. Gotten rid of lots of red tape.
You can disagree out how well he handled it overall, but claiming Obama/Biden had a good playbook just indicates you are a hopeless partisan.
This administration is a joke. They really don't care at all about this virus or who they infect.
Clearly the White House is trying to keep the lid on this outbreak - the news of it that is. About the two housekeepers known to have been infected, the Maggie Haberman tweet said: "When their tests came back positive, they were told to use "discretion" in discussing it." https://twitter.com/maggieNYT/status...80250315132929
The housekeepers worked on the third floor of the residence but had no direct contact with the Trump or Melania. Unlike the WH staff that has decamped, they and other 'essential workers' don't have the option of working from home. The White House thinks it's enough to:
“The White House is following CDC guidelines and has a full-time detailed CDC epidemiologist on staff who has been here since March,” a spokesman said in response to inquiries why the WH is not accepting assistance. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/...dc/3630015001/

They did, but it sounds like the JCS possible exposure on Sunday at the WH led to increased Pentagon testing. A CG admiral (who wasn't at the WH military reception?) then tested positive. At that point anyone who'd been in meetings with the admiral that week at the Pentagon entered quarantine. And the military is accepting CDC assistance to contact trace. The Pentagon chose a proactive public health response.
Wonder if that's the event Trump was referring to on Sean Hannity on Thursday night when he accused Hope Hicks of getting too close to what he called the soldiers. So what was Trump implying? The Pentagon gave covid to the White House? (Needless to say that's nonsense, with the SCOTUS nomination event the day before.)

President Donald Trump’s physician says the president is experiencing “no symptoms” of COVID-19 after returning home from the hospital Monday night.
He says that Trump had a “restful first night at home” and that his vital signs remain stable, including his blood oxygen level.
The doctor did not provide any details on what medications the president is currently taking, including whether he has been administered additional steroids.

Like dementia and idiocy? Because really, with Trump....that's a coin toss.
