So if a Trump supporter gets COVID-19, it’s because of their irresponsible, reckless behavior. If a POC gets COVID-19, it’s because of racism. It definitely has nothing to do with the massive, jam-packed protests/riots all summer long. As long as you are yelling black lives matter, the spit droplets are incapable of carrying the virus. Certainly it has nothing to do with looters cramming into stores, bumping into each other with no masks on.

As per the norm on these special edition narratives, no comments are allowed, the narrative cannot be undermined. The piece reads as if written by a high school student, I’m sure it’ll win a Pulitzer.

Media literally (in latin) means middle.

USA Today is not the media.

Housing segregation did play a role in where the biggest outbreaks happened. I don’t really get what the OP is saying. You should do some reading on Redlining.

I keep saying this, my family has been hit really, really hard by this virus early on. I lost two brothers, a nephew, and multiple extended family members - all on my mother’s side. At the same time, people who lived in the house with them either never got it or had it so mildly they were assumed to not have it because they weren’t testing back then. This includes my sister-in-law, who slept in the same bed with my brother and took care of him without gloves or a mask. I really do think some people are naturally more susceptible to it, and unfortunately I think American black people are on that list. The problem with insisting on making it about racism is it stops researchers from pursuing biological reasons - you know, the ones that discovering can lead to discovering effective treatments.

My family deserves better answers. We all had healthcare, none of us were impoverished, and we lived in nice middle class neighborhoods.

With regard to housing, poor white people are living in the same conditions. This is a class problem, not a racial one.

Anyone living in a city has access to healthcare, so I don't get their point on that.

And I'm not sure where they're getting this: When COVID-19 struck, more people of color were serving as essential workers directly in the path of the virus.

I'd like to see some data to back that up.

Redlining keeps nice neighborhoods like mine from going downhill.

Redlining has nothing to do with it.

But if it makes you feel better...

Redlining was outlawed over 50 years ago. POC can live wherever they want to in this nation.
