I think people who have ill will towards others, especially wishing for death and suffering, are pretty sick in the head, "karmic" payback or not.
But karma only affects your next life, and if you don't believe in reincarnation, then you don't believe in karma. This is really a thing from Hindu and Buddhism, and the religious philosophies in the far east that Buddhism influenced.
And as far as I know, being repaid in this life for sins and misdeeds is not a part of any Biblical teaching, either. It is however part of Wicca. Is your family really into witchcraft?
