I think most people mean well, but base their opinions on misinformation. This describes most Democrats and a smaller portion of Republicans. Both parties do have a solid contingent of truly evil people. Neither party has a lock on evil motivations, but Dems in general seem to think that the means justify the end, which often results in behaviors that are indistinguishable from pure evil. Intolerance is the most common example of this. Many Democrats are incredibly intolerant, but think its OK because they have good intentions.
If you are a "very bad" person then your ideas must be "very bad", and vice versa.
.
I don't agree. Donald Trump is a bad person. He makes fun of handicapped people. He cheats on his wives. He set up a phony charity so he could profit from it. He lied about Covid-19. Just a few examples.
Donald Trump has had some good ideas. I think meeting with Kim Jong Un was worth a try. Banning travel from China was a good idea (maybe too little too late).
Those good ideas didn't make him into a good person.

I believe you have hit the bull's eye.
