The length of time Amy Coney Barrett has been a judge.
And yet, she ran circles around the lazy democrats - backwards, in heels.
The lazy democrats couldn't even come up with substantive legal questions and instead filibustered for their pet SJW causes and made themselves look like the fools they are.
She said something a few days ago that I've never heard any judge, much less a Supreme Court justice, say.
I don't have the exact words, but the gist was:
A law means what the people who wrote and ratified it meant at the time they wrote it. And it is not judges' job to "update" it or otherwise modify it from that. Instead, that is Congress's job.
That is bedrock. If she sticks to that... and even better if she persuades other justices of its truth... then she will be the best Supreme Court Justice in my lifetime.
Ye, and she did that numerous times - reminded the senators that is was not the Supremes job to legislate from the bench, but THEIR job to amend current or pass new legislation.
And it was obvious that democrats believe they should have someone 'on their side' on the court, proving to me that they DO want judges who legislate from the bench. It was obvious.
8 months before the 2016 election, the Republican controlled Senate declined to vet Garland, let alone give him a hearing.
Now less than 3 weeks to the 2020 election, the Republican controlled Senate is proceeding and there is no question Barrett will be confirmed.
It’s the abject documented hypocrisy of some Republican Senators that really stinks.
The hearing is an opportunity for grandstanding by both parties.
Barrett is solid. Ask if she prefers beef or chicken. Confirm and move on.
"to the victor go the spoils"
If the Democrats owned the Senate they'd be doing the same thing. Elections have consequences, and at some point in time the shoe will be on the other foot and the GOP will have to deal with it.
From what I understand - even so close to the Election - if a candidate dies or becomes so sick that he/she has to withdraw, it is up to his/her Party to select a replacement. Since it is obviously too late to hold another Convention, I could see the Dems move Kamala, the obvious choice, to the top spot.
PS: Electoral Votes do NOT count for a candidate who has died.
Neither do all the early votes already cast before election day for the dead candidate.
Ya, let the dems add more seats and in 8 years when it flips again the Conservatives will add twice as many. Brilliant strategy.
Instead of increasing the number again, the Republicans will just lower the number back to 9 and send Kagen, Sotamayer, and whoever else is the most liberal back to the appellate court.
