The article is basically asking how much blame the store should bear for what happened.
Slate is a another obvious mouthpiece for he left in this country. One I try to a avoid reading. They hate America and are always bashing it and white people. They are the neo-democrat friend.
Well, that is your opinion...many do not see it this way.
Plus, if you notice in the article, the store owners say this kid would not have called police, had he known of the 'tension' between these two groups, why do you think they would say that?
Because they’ve seen police approach a suspected counterfeiter with their guns drawn, if he was black, as they did in this case.

Tensions between what groups, criminals and law enforcement?
The person saw a crime, reported the crime, but now he is the bad guy?
No surprise that you got some clowns on here defending George Floyd and blaming the store owner for doing his job, lol. Sometimes, it really does feel like we're currently living in bizarro world.
Er... I think they're asking for a link that shows 'they’ve seen police approach a suspected counterfeiter with their guns drawn, if he was black, as they did in this case'. You know, showing it happened BEFORE this. Since you're claiming that's the reason the store owner says this kid would not have called police, had he known of the 'tension' between these two groups. Meaning PRIOR incidents.

Yeah, 2020 is a strange year.
In my 12 years career as a cop (in a very progressive & blue state), i have never heard anybody blame the store owners for calling the cops on shoplifters or thieves or people passing fake bills....until this year.
Somebody paying with counterfeit money seems like a pretty good reason to call the police. That gets the ball rolling for finding and exposing the counterfeiters. Impossible to know whether Floyd was the counterfeiter or if he just got the fake money innocently. The insanity that followed the man's death pretty much shut the door on anybody looking into that.
Slate is being pretty massively irresponsible here, and they're going to get people working at that store doxxed and maybe murdered.
The full responsibility for the death of George Floyd can be shared between George Floyd for the lethal dose of Fentanyl he took, and Derek Chauvin for kneeling on his neck for 8 minutes like a complete moron. Calling attention to one more person that the mob might want to lynch is just terrible of Slate, and exactly what you'd expect from a Far Left trash rag.

The store owner advised not to call police, the employee wasn’t familiar with the reasons why not to, naivety.
The situation though, happens all the time. Am I supposed to give a link to my phone video? I have 2. Am I supposed to give a link to other people (I know) who have shared their stories and accounts? I’m not just assuming there are tensions and circumstances where police overreact when the suspect has been black. I live here.
