I never understood these 3 strike laws this is a case where a man was given life sentence for attempted theft of a Hedge Clipper had been in prison since 1997.

I know what some will say stop committing felonies won't get life. I know how this happens they steal a tool from a attached garage of a home which is a felony in some states.

I agree that it seems harsh and don't mind him getting out, but this guy is a moron.

He had previously been arrested 4 times for stealing things including armed robbery and he knew the 5th time if a felony was a life sentence mandatory and he then chose to risk that on hedge clippers.

The guy can't be too intelligent.

Yeah and had there not been harsh sentencing for repeat offenders like this and this guy got out 20 years ago he probably would've committed more serious crimes. The tougher sentencing is probably why crime began to drop in the 1990s. That's the flipside, lower crime, leftists don't want to talk about.

Not when rightists use "probably" as something to judge mens' lives by but we understand their flexibility with 'facts', witness the leader of their party.

Interestingly, Washington and California were the first states to adopt "Three Strikes Laws."

I say "probably why" because no one agrees on why the crime rate dropped since the 1990s, but I believe it was mostly because the worst criminals were being locked up for longer sentences.

That's logical. 1+1=2. But it was also smart policing where they put more cops in high crime areas. But now that's considered racist because it puts more cops in black areas.

What's telling is, all one has to do is read "life sentence in Louisiana for stealing hedge clippers" to know he was black. There are tons of murderers that get shorter sentences.

Absolutely.

The justice system, especially in the deep south, is so flawed.

When I look through the crimes he's committed/attempted to commit, a young white man with upper middle class parents paying for a good attorney wouldn't even have served jail time.

Bryant was convicted in 1979 for attempted armed robbery, in 1987 for possession of stolen things, attempted forgery of a check worth $150 in 1989 and for simple burglary of an inhabited dwelling in 1992, all before his 1997 arrest for the failed attempt at stealing the hedge clippers.

He needs to stay in prison, he is an idiot, a lousy criminal and will just get out and be ANOTHER drain on the system, at least in prison we can keep him from harming anyone or stealing their stuff.
