Not True for all states. ^^^^Some states allow the votes to be counted. Florida allows them to be counted. Michigan doesn't allow them to be counted.
We should not be called the United States of America. We're not united at all. Every state's laws are different, every cities's laws are different, even county laws differ. I'm amazed we function as well as we do.

We operate under a federal system. That means some matters are committed to the states, some determined nationally.

Indeed, and the fact that some people don't understand the meaning of "federal republic" demonstrates a massive failure of the public education system.

Some people pine for the European system. They want our system enough that they've created a Rube Golbergian "Europe" from which the UK is exiting.
I think our system works well, all things considered.
I agree that if the State Law says that a voter must be alive on election day anyone who passes earlier, even if they voted early, that vote must be excluded.
I doubt that many are impacted but if you want to have your vote count abide by health advisories.

When you're creating a State, you have three choices for a governmental system:
1) a unitary State
2) a confederation
3) a federation
That's it. There's no other options.
Unitary States work when you have one ethnic group and one dominant culture and the territory is small or manageable.
So, Iceland, Ireland, England, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, the Netherlands, France, Austria, Japan etc they can operate as unitary States.
Right out of the cage they rejected a unitary State for the US.
There were already way too many ethnic groups and cultures here, the colonies had been operating as States for sometime, and they knew they would be expanding westward to the Mississippi and up into Illinois right to the border of French Territory which would triple the size of the country.
They chose a confederation, but the governing document wasn't crafted very well, so they ended up with some problems.
On a Monday evening, June 19, 1786, Congress was meeting at Federal Hall in New York City (that's where the capital was) and shortly before they broke for Summer vacation about 6:00 PM they took a vote to create a committee to draft a new document.
That's how you ended up with the Constitution.
Again, they rejected a unitary State because it just wouldn't work and wisely chose a federal republic.
The conflict that exists is now is that Liberals are trying to coerce a unitary State while Conservatives are hell-bent on maintaining the federal republic.
So long as that is true, things will snowball until it eventually gets violent and one side wipes out the other.
You have to be alive, Election Day. It doesn't matter what you identify as politically. It's a rule because dead people should have no say in our elections, as the effects of the election won't affect them. I feel the same way about my vote, that I already cast, if god forbid something happens between now and election day, strike my vote.
Nov 3rd is Election Day. If you can't fog a mirror on Election Day your vote doesn't count. Period!
