In the past, the VP slot has been inconsequential, as sans Jerry Ford, they have not been called upon to do much.

Now we have a seriously compromised presidential candidate with a VP pick that was not very popular in her own party.

It may be a moot point, but would it not make more sense to have the primary runner up be the VP pick? At least such a VP would have more support among thier party constituents should they be called upon to serve as president?

It was actually Gerry Ford and he was very underrated.

Why not go back to the VP being the general election runner up? Well, other than the 12th amendment.

Also, to answer your question, the 12th amendment.

Originally it was the loser of the general election. But I think it is better for the President to pick whoever they want. It is a good indication of their judgement. In today’s case, it shows the good judgement of Trump and the suicidal judgement of Lyin, Hiden, Will-Take-A-Briben Biden.
