Santa Clara County, California: Mandated whenever you are within 6 feet of anyone not in your household but not enforced outdoors (neighborhood walks, trails, beaches, parks, etc). Strictly enforced in all indoor buildings including community rooms in apartment or condo complexes. The only exception is kids under 6. Adults who are unable to wear a mask for medical reasons are told to go with delivery or curbside pickup but I do know someone who has asthma who gets in places with a mask with holes in it and sometimes gets away with wearing it on his mouth only. I do see some people who go overboard and wear masks when jogging alone and put masks on their babies in strollers even though both are clearly NOT required.
They don't let you go inside stores, offices, restaurants, museums, etc. without a mask.
Then let me say it a different way this time. They do not need to be enforced, and they are not enforced where I am. Compliance is high, but no one cares about the rare instance of noncompliance.
Stores and buildings have signs on the entrances mandating masks.
Outside in general, only some wear masks. I don't wear them outside. I stay well over 6 ft away from others. If I were in a more crowded situation I would wear a mask though.
I haven't personally seen any enforcement or any drama.
You cannot even enter a store here without one. For a brief time some fast food places were requiring one to go through the drive thru, but they changed their minds about that. I still don't intend to do business with those places ever again. The bigger stores like Walmart have security and will call the cops on you if you aren't wearing the mask to their satisfaction. There are some stores that if your mask falls down some, and they see it, they will have you forcibly removed from the store.
Most people are complying with the dubious rules. Employees try to enforce the rules on customers for fear of punishment by their boss or complaints from other customers. Politicians think they are saving humanity.
Some restaurants let you eat in. Others will be going out of business soon.
Neither required or enforced. Some people wear them in especially crowded locations-I do. But many do not. We don't at work, and haven't since the beginning. Bars are open without mandates.
