"Trump's political party affiliation has changed numerous times. He registered as a Republican in Manhattan in 1987, switched to the Reform Party in 1999, the Democratic Party in 2001, and back to the Republican Party in 2009."

I dispute that he ever really leaned "far to the Left" of anyone. As you say yourself, Trump's political affiliations have always been about some sort of social or political expediency. Scratching backs so that his back in turn would be scratched, which explains his party hopping.

Economically, his actions from the beginning of his career were about as far Right-wing as one can be. He has always been a rapacious capitalist. The only time he has willingly turned down a profit was when he refulsed to let Black people to rent his properties.

I guess we'll see if people start throwing around "DINO" for anybody on the left that disagrees with him. Frankly, I can't recall of anybody being accused of such.

Biden doesn't have anything to do with this. Question is why would someone view Romney as the RINO instead of Trump?

I'm a Mormon voter who voted (just yesterday) for Biden. Romney's choice not to vote for Trump had nothing to do with my decision. Of course, I also voted for Obama when he was running against Romney. Mormon Democrats are rare, but not unheard of.

I agree with his take and I was one of those 61 million voting for Romney in 2012.

Actually Cruz withheld support from Trump for a long time.

But he is a politician. He realized it was hurting him, so he let it go.

Is Romney a traitor, or is he just intelligent?

The Republican Party is now the Trump Party. If their worst fears come true, the GOP will not only lose the White House, it will lose both Houses of Congress as well.

That means someone with some experience needs to be around, a survivor, who can help re-structure the party from the ground up.

This is exactly what happened to the Democratic Party after 2016. That failure was seen as being institutional, the party's fault, as much as individual, Hillary Clinton's fault. The party was headed in the wrong direction and was led by the wrong person.

Trump leads by his personality alone, and that can't be transferred onto others when he's gone. He will be gone, no matter what, in 4 years or less, and his party will have to come up with some plans that will win new and young voters to the conservative cause. Or they will simply become the oppositional minority for years to come.

Is Trump going to gracefully pass his leadership to someone else if he loses?

Or will he take a torch to his party and burn it to the ground?

If that happens, who will be a RINO then? The guy with the torch, or the guy with the fire hose?

Romney's career in politics is over. He is on the wrong side of history. I also suspect he will be named as a co-conspirator with Biden, Pelosi, Kerry, Schiffty in the money laundering Ukraine scheme.
