Said by Lindsey Graham about Joe Biden on Fox News today. I'm not sure if Graham is right, but I am willing to entertain the idea that he is. Perhaps the extremists in the Democratic Party are now calling the shots, and mainstream Democratic politicians are no longer in charge. Maybe. Maybe not.
Here's what I know to be true though - Lindsey Graham is definitely NOT in charge of the Republican Party. Neither is Mitch McConnell or any other mainline Republican politician. The extremists staged a hostile take over of the GOP in 2010. In 2016, the successfully put up a candidate. He's laid the old party to waste. Many in here daily gloat about the smoking ruins.
So what are those of us who still think moderation is the way to go to do? You know, the overwhelming majority who believe in live and let live in social issues? Those who'd like to have an economy that benefits the working and middle classes instead of just the wealthy? Those who don't fear and loathe fellow citizens who happen to vote differently.?
Donald Trump has shown us repeatedly there is certainly not a home for us in the Republican Party any longer. Soooo... guess we'll have to try to find one in the Democratic Party, right?
Anyone care to make the case that the GOP still has room for moderates?

Cry baby Democrats sniffed and moaned today when Amy Coney Barret slides right into first place without the hateful Democrats having a say-so in it!
Is there room for moderates in the democrat party? Trump is one man. Half the democrat base seems to be pretty far out there. On another note, the polarization on this forum seems to be exceptionally strong today. Lots of bashing by both parties.. seems like war has been declared.

Let me get this straight - the "extremists" in the Democratic party are calling the shots so they passed over Sanders, Warren, and Yang; and picked..... Biden.
And instead of forcing Biden to pick Warren or AOC as the running mate, they picked... Harris.
To summarize, the "extremists" somehow didn't entertain a Sanders/AOC ticket but went with the Biden/Harris ticket instead.

lolol.. thank you for proving my point, Wanna. Believe it or not, the majority of us want to move beyond juvenile rhetoric. I have been an adult for decades. I have my opinions and preferences, but I am ready, willing, and able to engage in thoughtful debate and seek to compromise with fellow Americans who see things differently. There's no home for people like me in the GOP. Is it any wonder why so many have defected to the Democratic Party this election cycle?

In other words, you want us to maintain the deep state bs that's been going on because you felt all comfy at home in your recliner?
Trump is not the 2010 pick. Ron Paul was the pick, but the media, regardless of what channel or print, ignored him as much as they could.
Ok.
Then...you get this.
The Republican party is ALSO a mess. It's not just the Dem party.
Trump is a message to the government from the American people. It would appear that the government has been crying about that ever since. Tough crap for them.
Here's moderate:
Very small government. Very. Small. Just that alone resolves so many issues that we have today.
Until the government goons remember that they work for us, we do not bow to them -
when they remember that they aren't to go into it to become millionaires through back door deals -
when we can get some type of term limits in for congress creatures -
when we can stop these family dynasties -
when corruption is actually handled and not swept under the rug -
when the government stops stealing from us for a variety of reasons, including and up to giving OUR money to someone else who did NOT earn it -
when we actually own wth we buy (land) -
when the government no longer owns big swaths of land -
when the government stops putting us in other parts of the world to appease their own greed -
when the government stops using media as their propaganda tool -
when the government stops mandating things that they have zero business mandating -
when they get out of education, healthcare, and marriage, and every other social issue out there -
when they remember exactly what their job is instead of their non stop campaigning that they've done for at least 100 years now - only then...ONLY then, can we consider anything "moderate".

Why can't the right-wing logic?
.
I get it. This is pretty crazy logic. I do think Graham may have a point though. The Democratic Party is not far behind the Republicans on the slippery slope to hell. I am glad Biden prevailed this year. I hope the kind of pragmatic, decent approach to politics he has championed for five decades continue to prevail. I want to see way more Reagans, Bushes, McCains, and Romneys in the future. Tired of the toddler antics. Would like to have two adult parties again.

Well, there is a moderate at the top of our presidential ticket .. so yeah, I think there is still a place for moderates in the Democratic Party. We're not purging them like the Republicans are theirs.

Three, you have a point of view. You're entitled to it. But no, this isn't moderate. I am VERY "comfy" on my big fat recliner at home. VERY. I am a regular run-of-mill man in his 40s working on a dad bod. I'd like to maintain my level of comfort, increase opportunities for the next generation, and get on with it. I'm not interested in enlisting in any crusades - no matter what the banner. The GOP is clearly not for me or for people like me. You're welcomed to it.

The disastrous Bushes? I sure hope not. Reagan was vastly overrated.
McCains and Romney's best quality is they are not insane. Both would make better Senators than presidents.
Curiously, the most competent candidate they unveiled is Dole, imo.
The Republicans desperately need to nominate much better than the clowns they rolled out in the last five decades.
