Trump Won the Debate—But Won Bigly the Post-Debate

There was a low bar for Joe Biden in the first debate, given his cognitive challenges. Because he exceeded that pessimism, he won momentum.

In opposite fashion, there was similarly an expectation that a disruptive Donald Trump would turn off the audience by the sort of interruptions and bullying that characterized the first debate.

He did not do that. He instead let a cocky Biden sound off, and thus more or less tie himself into knots on a host of topics, but most critically on gas and oil. So likewise Trump will gain momentum by exceeding those prognoses.

He did better than the first debate but not good enough to move the needle.

if you were able to look at it objectively then you would know that most snap polls had Biden winning the 2nd debate. Trump doesn't know how to debate policy very coherently.

I don't see the gas and oil pronouncement hurting Biden in any swing state with the possible exception of Pennsylvania.

Nobody knows exactly where the needle is, really. Voting will tell the only truth that matters.

From the article:
"What instead counts most are the days after. The debate take-aways, the news clips, the post facto fact checks, and the soundbites to be used in ads over the next ten days all favor Trump. In this regard, Biden did poorly and will suffer continual bleeding in the swing states.

We will know that because by the weekend Biden will be out of his basement and trying to reboot his campaign and actually be forced to campaign.

So we are going to hear over the next week that Biden simply denied the factual evidence of the Hunter Biden laptop computer, the emails, the cell phones, and the testimonies from some of the relevant players as a concocted smear, a Russian disinformation attack. That denial is clearly a lie. It is absolutely unsupportable. And Biden will have to drop that false claim."

Independents won't like this, and not all of us have voted yet.

This guy as no capacity for real facts in his storehouse of bias, Trump fans are like that, more of a team sports kind of following than anything driven by logic and deeper thought..The same mindset is at work when the rabid sports fans say--"I hope WE win tonight," as though the team of millionaire players includes--Them..

As a libertarian without a dog in the fight, Trump did much better than Biden in the 2nd debate. Neither, of course, could hold a candle against Reagan, Bill Clinton, or Obama. Even in the first debate, while Trump was painted as the unruly one it was actually Biden that started the interruptions.

Biden's crosses to bear with independents (who will be the ultimate decider of the election) are his stances on petroleum and free trade, along with the trainwreck of his party. Trump's crosses to bear are his personality and a hostile media.

It remains to be seen which way independents will vote.

Poll: Majority of viewers say Biden won final debate

The survey found that 54 percent of debate watchers believed Biden won the matchup, while 39 percent said Trump did. Only 8 percent of those who watched said they didn’t know or had no opinion.

I think you are misplacing emphasis on independents. In this election unlike 2016 the number of independents is quite small. Most people have made up their minds and the polls have been stable.

Well, it should hurt him in all 50 states, but the country has a lot of morons in it.
