1/10 of 1%?

Tomorrow, we will hit 100,000 cases in one day for the first time but the daily deaths will probably plateau around the 1,000 mark (mostly over 70 with preexisting conditions). There is no chance that the U.S. will tolerate another lockdown like we had in March and April after the media endorsed all those protests all summer, so it's herd immunity, vaccine, or bust at this point!

Well, herd immunity does not really exist without a vaccine. And there is no vaccine yet. And once it's available , it will take time to ramp up and to vaccinate any significant fraction of the population. There were no real lockdowns in US in the first place. Lastly, it shouldn't really be about lockdowns at this point , it's smart behavior vs stupid one. Unfortunately, the stupid ruins it for everybody.

like the hypocrisy of claiming that opening barbershops and going to your cousin's or friend's house for a summer BBQ will spread covid but protesting and rioting with thousands of strangers doesn't? or arresting a lone surfer in April for violating shelter in place and then endorsing looters and arsonists in the name of social justice?

The country also tallied more than 1,000 deaths related to the virus for the second consecutive day. At least 228,000 fatalities have been linked to the virus since February.”
If you're talking about cases, you're trying to mislead people.

I wonder if at least 80 to 95% of those testing positive are going to be feeling just fine again after no more than a week or less? Some of them don't even develop symptoms. If that is all true, then that is precisely why so much of America isn't taking the virus seriously. I won't be surprised if the majority of them vote for Trump.

If you want to go get sick go ahead but most people don't. Hospitals are already overwhelmed. If we don't lockdown people are in trouble. Most people don't want this virus. Herd immunity is not guaranteed.

No they won't ignore it. Not if it's law. However I don't think people are that stupid. I know several businesses in my state that have closed for the year because of this. One was an entertainment complex-restaraunt that was packed every night in the summer. I don't believe people are so reckless and stupid they wouldn't comply with a lockdown. Many are even doing it on their own.
