And, in the U.S. 1,194 days of a Presidential campaign. How do you think the French and Japanese view this utter madness in the U.S.? Do they laugh at us or feel sorry for us?

2 countries out of how many are limiting the campaign window? There are other things I would rather see reigned during the campaign season than the time window.
Presidential race in the US is certainly among the world’s longest political campaigns, and according to polls many Americans aren’t happy about it. Most are exhausted by the glut of election coverage and all the associated drama... and lately - lots of contradictions and misinformation.
The cost is also huge and disproportionate - billions of $ are poured into the contests, when mere millions are spent on elections in other countries.
Money should be separated from politics, but there is huge influence of wealthy individuals and corporations in elections. They are investing in favorable policy outcomes.
For Federal elections in Canada, the limit is between 36 and 50 days.
The only problem is being attached to the US and inundated with their politics, particularly the guy who starts campaigning for his second term less than a month into his first term.
