You never once commented on the measure going into affect in Oregon and how that might affect those who live here who don't do drugs or support drug use.
Secondly when someone puts a substance in their body and then cannot control themselves it can affect innocent people around them. Then add in the fact drugs are expensive and if your already financially struggling how will you afford this lifestyle which then fuels theft and stealing again hurting people in the community. So actions of drug users affect those around them , therefore we get to have an opinion about it.
Do you not think alcohol abuse impacts 'innocent people'?
Alcohol is completely legal to anyone 21+...how much 'illegal alcohol sales' do you see around your area? Are the alcohol dealers charging more than the stores do?
And yet, while alcohol prohibition was in effect, criminal organizations were heavily involved in sales and distribution, they were charging MUCH higher prices than when it was legal...Can you not see how the prohibition laws BENEFITED the criminals...(just something to think about)

I have family who live in Oregon. They don't need an issue one way or the other.
So instead of treating people who use drugs as criminals, we should instead treat them as a sick person. Most people who do hard drugs are using drugs to cope with life's issues.
If we can treat those issues, that will mean less likely people will turn to drugs to cope. And thus less of the other issues you mentioned.
I would like to sincerely thank you, Oregon, for offering to hoover up all the homeless drug addicts from other states. You were already doing a great job attracting the young, wealthy white liberals who had been ruined by their college "educations." It was big of you to take this on too.
It’s another Leftist social experiment. As we all know, it always fail. If you don’t believe me, then someone, anyone please point out a Leftist social experiment that has worked out?

Sounds like a win win to me.
Sick people go to the hospital, get treated, and then go home when they get better.
Where do you suppose all these drug users will be going? Details please!
People shouldn't be felons for merely ingesting a substance. I'm all for increasing the sentence if a person commits a violent crime related to drug use, but I don't believe people should be in prison for simple possession of small amounts. Make them patients and rehabilitate them. Make getting welfare and food stamps dependent on being clean, and institute welfare to work programs to train addicts how to become capable individuals. If in the end all that doesn't work, perhaps throw them in prison. Drug addicts shouldn't be mooching off government services their whole lives, but deserve to have several chances to get clean.
The problem is the left doesn't even care if anyone tries to work...they wanna give people free stuff for life. We need to have compassion, and yet teach people to fish at the same time, and encourage responsible choices.

Plus marijuana should be legal as arguably so should certain psychedelics especially in microdosing amounts.
This is our Puritanical heritage...we dont punish drug users because its effective, we punish them because 'drug use' is considered morally wrong, its sort of like the old witch trials, if you decide to use drugs...you need to be punished for it...its EVIL!!
We send our drug swat teams out to bust down peoples doors in the middle of the night due to using and selling drugs for petes sake! Im surprised they dont bring a priest with them on these drug raids, and try to convey how evil drugs are. LOL
Its sad to say this is where we are in the year 2021, but its true.

Rehab and psychological counseling would be a wonderful start and much better then putting them in jail.
