A computer error led election officials in Oakland County to hand an upset victory Wednesday to a Democrat, only to switch the win back to an incumbent Republican a day later.
...
Oakland County Director of Elections Joe Rozell said the error stemmed from a computer issue at the Rochester Hills city clerk’s office.
“A computer issue in Rochester Hills caused them to send us results for seven precincts as both precinct votes and absentee votes. They should only have been sent to us as absentee votes,” Rozell said in a text message.
“We noticed the local clerk’s mistake (on Thursday) and corrected it. The county canvass process works, and the correct results are now on our website,” Rozell said.
And the process worked apparently without regard to politics. A Republican city clerk supervised a vote count that wrongly gave victory to a Democrat, after which a Democratic county clerk's staff caught the error and requested a correction from the Republican city clerk, handing the win to a Republican.
A computer glitch, again. A 100 vote loss turns into a 1000 vote victory.
Glad it was caught but unless the election people are on their toes or processes can pick up mistakes this one would've slipped by.
I don't know how much knowledge or empowerment many of these poll watchers etc have but they should at be able to point out an issue, doesn't have to be addressed on spot but what ever it is it should be flagged for further attention.

The procedures are just abysmal. Also in Michigan, one county turned in 153,000 for Biden instead of 15,300. Its just unfathomable that the system doesn't catch this or prevent this before it happens.
Good. It took them less than a day to identify and correct the error. That's why they do cross checking. They were sent votes from another Michigan precinct which was not meant to be included. Obviously those votes belonged to the other precinct so they were also impacted and corrected.

That's the thing, the system did catch and correct it.
