Mainers aren't dumb. They are fiscally conservative but socially moderate and generally practical people. You want them to elect a fake conservative like Trump - it ain't happening. Mainers have loyalty to their family, their land and their way of life not a political party. Susan Collins is a prime example of that.

The only people perpetuating the "dey comin fer our guns" are the extremes on the loony right.
I still don’t understand how these northeastern states can occasionally elect republican governors but always vote democrat in presidential races

Biden said he is coming for your guns, BINGO coming for your 'assaukt weapons". Said he would put Beto in charge of gun confiscation.

this begs the question from Mainers, why on earth would you vote for the guy who said he would take away your guns???????????

Has Maine now decided it no longer desires people to own firearms?

Why Maine why????
Perhaps people are voting without thinking through the issues and positions of the candidates; rather, they are voting just to say they don't like Trump. Short sighted for sure, but those folks have to pay the piper.

Lots of upper middle class and wealthy retired people from New York and Massachusetts moving to those states is probably a big factor in the distorted politics. Especially in Vermont.

There is also a sort of willful blindness that what the Democrats did in New York, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Jersey or Connecticut could never happen in places like Vermont or Maine.

Some day reality will hit.

meh. I dont think hes going to go after guns. Look at the polling data, most of us love our guns more then those who dont. And Bidens made it clear he wants to lead all of us. So I think guns are safe. Theres probably some stuff each of us wont like for one reason or another, but the idea is still that most of us like what occurs. So guns are safe.

The Sandy Hook mass shooting happened in 2012. The mass shooting of 20, 6-7-year-olds, was not sufficient to bring about change. Obama vowed to " do something".

The Parkland mass shooting happened in 2015. Trump promised to " do something".

POTUS has no authority to " do something".

And it makes no diff, which party holds the majority.

Because the governors don't have to pander to the deep south with the religious bull crap. Republicans in the northeast aren't the social conservatives that think government needs to be in your personal business. But that stuff sells in the south and midwest so a Presidential candidate needs to get those votes but the northeast tends to reject those Republicans.

It's funny I remember the first time I ever voted Democrat it was the 1996 NH Gubernatorial Campaign when Ovide Lamontagne (R) faced Jeanne Shaheen. Lamontagne was way too far right and pandering to the religious crowd. I couldn't pull the trigger. Since then, I'd say I'm still about 75% Republican voter but I won't vote for a candidate who thinks they need to worry about what people do in their personal lives.

None of the other NE states split up their electoral votes so the urban areas dominate.
I don't think Maine has anything that qualifies as a large urban area, but yes, if you throw out Cumberland County, which contains Portland and surrounding towns, then Maine goes from 53-44 Biden to a dead heat. Biden carried all the coastal counties in Maine though, except far down east Washington. And Trump got all of the interior. I think the divide in Maine is largely between traditional, moderately conservative Mainers with deep roots in the state who are trying to make a living, and liberal transplants from the Northeast urban centers who see settling in Maine as a lifestyle choice.

They're basically dodo birds. It's been 200+ years since they've had any predators to worry about in their out-of-the-way corner of the world.

That's all wrong. Southerners vote R because of race, not religion.

I currently live in NC, I've witnessed candidates trying to out-Jesus each other.

Plus we just elected a black Lt. Governor. Race ain't the issue, Jesus and making sure I can't buy beer before noon on Sunday are the priorities here.
