I used to be a conservative, now I don't know if I am because apparently it means I have to believe in conspiracy theories. They are all crooks though, so welcome to the independents!

I feel the same way... I guess I consider myself an independant moderate now... or may be a libertarian.

You DO realize Social Security is EARNED, right? You have to work a minimum of 10 years, earning 40 credits, of them, being your highest earning years to even qualify for Social Security. It is not welfare. Nobody GIVES you Social Security. If you do not have the credits, you don't get it.

As far as Medicare in concerned. You normally have to be on this earth 65 years to get it (there are exceptions for certain medical diseases) and at that point, at 65, you are getting old, you likely might not be working anymore due to age, health reasons and if you do happen to have other insurance, that insurance is your primary and Medicare is your secondary insurance (except for some medical diseases where after 24 months, Medicare becomes your primary) and then your insurance (if you have it) would be your secondary.

I’m registered as a libertarian. I voted Democrat for president, but 3rd party for rest of my ballot.

You're still a liberal. Don't confuse whatever it is the Left is doing with liberalism. There's nothing liberal about their ideology or methods.

Liberals and conservatives generally agree on principles and goals. The divide is in how to achieve the goals, and the role the government should play.

The goals of the modern Left are fundamentally different from the goals of liberals and conservatives. They want top-down, authoritarian governance where the People are managed by their government, not served by it. Their ideas are wholly incompatible with our constitution, and the concept of self-governance itself.

The Democrat party has allowed itself to become infected by this ideology. I have my thoughts on why, but the bottom line is that you need to be very vocal with every Democrat candidate and current office holder, as well as the party itself, about the fact that their party has been hijacked, and let them know you won't vote Democrat again until they get their house cleaned up. You have to mean it, too. There's a lot of power at stake, and if you want to keep your share, you're going to have to fight for it.

Great post.

Find reasonable quality individuals that are not too extreme and support those candidates.

Many Republicans couldn't care less about gay marriage or abortion.

Most of the Republicans I know aren't even particularly religious.
While I agree to a point, all it takes to confirm the religious right is still in control is to look at the judges that the Republican senate confirms. Some are downright scary. especially the females.

A) folks had taxes deducted for medicare all of their work lives and there is no cutoff in the premium payment at a certain income, B) Retirees still pay monthly medicare premiums on a sliding scale, the more one earns from all sources in retirement, the higher the premiums, C) ss gets deducted from paychecks an entire working life, but is income capped.

You really don't know socialism from a hole in the ground.
