Nope, you volunteered to serve as ordered. We havent been involved in a defensive conflict since the 19th century. If you were surprised to be sent overseas you should have looked into what our armed services does before signing up.

Actually, World War II, the Pacific theater, was a "defensive" action. Japan's military, sponsored by its government, attacked U.S. property there (the ships, not the island itself).

When you sign the dotted line you sign up to defend the USA and all those who have alliances and pacts with this nation.

One of the dangers of entangling alliances.

Actually I think you know what I was saying. If you joined the military in the modern era & didn't expect to defend another country or fight overseas your an idiot.

And why pick on Mexico - their government has been a much more active supporter of the United States in the War on Terror than Canada.
I'm not "picking on Mexico," rather I used to work down there on that dusty border and was responsible for the crossing of several trucks daily. A lot gets through without incident. In fact, it was a way of life to pay off the border patrol (least the ones guarding THEIR border) to get things through their customs. Someone's crossing all the drugs into the US, right? Why not something deadly too?

You volunteered to serve "US Interests," which is pretty much what this whole Iraq debacle comes down to - oil being the US interest now. It's such a shame that our fine troops are there fighting for OIL and yet all of this is shrouded in deception. Of course, if people would just come out and say that this is what the war is about, no one could keep them there so it works better to say something as silly as War on Terror.

It's not that we (US) are doing such a good job protecting the country..it's that the terrorists are not ready to attack again. They take their time planning and are in no hurry. Instilling a sense of fear drives them..you never know who, what, when an attack will occur.

One million Iraqis dead isn't enough of an incentive to at least have one little suicide bomber ram into an elementary school? Wow, they sure do have long fuses those terrorists.

The topic is about terrorist attacks in the US, not what they are doing to themselves over in Iraq.
