Photos at stores like Target, Walmart, and Macy's across the country show few crowds on Black Friday, typically one of the busiest shopping days of the year. Lines outside stores appeared shorter than in recent years, with shoppers wearing masks and social distancing prior to going inside.
I found everything I needed on slickdeals and ordered it all online and in a few cases had it shipped via amazon direct to the gift recipient with gift packaging. They put all this stuff on sale starting Thanksgiving day morning and through today and this weekend to a lesser extent. Why go into the store? Nah...
I went out for a couple quick errands and swung through Jack in the Box on my way home which is right in front of Wal Mart. That was around1130. And no, it wasnt crowded.
Personally I make the gifts I give at Christmas time. I only have 3 people I actually give gifts to anyway. To me it truly IS the thought that counts. It is with the small number of people I give gifts to as well.
Though this Covid stuff doesn't terrify me the way it does some people I am properly prudent and do protect myself and if for no other reason just out of courtesy I respect other people's personal space.
I just had a Covid test done recently and am in no hurry to repeat the process. And lack of holiday shopping crowds isnt hurting my feelings.
Amazon is better anyway. I can but new socks, a charger for my phone, an iPad, some jalapenos, toner for my printer, a houseplant, a bottle of orange juice, and some good camping gear, all from the comfort of my home while watching football. Best part is, I get it all delivered in the morning before I wake up for less money than what I'd pay at a store. Oh, did I mention no lines to stand in, no "self-serve" checkout, no lousy customer service, and I can drink a beer while ordering?

Yeah, there's just no way for stores to compete with that. Used to be I'd have to leave the country to buy size 13D New Balance sneakers. Now somehow Jeff Bezos makes money delivering them to me at my house in rural Japan, at a very reasonable price, in under 24 hrs.

They're building a massive distribution center in North Sioux Falls... that means 4 hour food deliveries for me in the not too distant future.
Just wait til' automation goes out in full force...
Like Henry Ford and the assembly line?
