Regulatory wise and this includes taxes, he largely was conservative. He is not a traditional conservative. Then again what conservatives are today aren't the conservatives of Reagan. I mean many want protectionist even xenophobic policies whether you talk trade or immigration.

His tax policies were not as conservative as it seems when you look at the details. Federal taxes were raised for several middle-class Americans in high COL areas (the same people that pay most federal taxes). His tax cuts were temporary and will expire. He's spent more than previous Presidents.

If conservative, he would have reduced taxes for all Americans and cut back spending so the tax cuts would be permanent.

No, which is hilarious because Democrats continually think he is.

Trump is a nationalist, and simply ran as a Republican to beat Hillary.

No. Trump isn't a conservative. He did have good native instincts about a lot of issues. He thought America was taken advantage of in just about every deal they signed. I agree. He thought our allies were taking advantage of us in international organization and not paying their fair share. I agree. He thought business was unnecessarily hampered by regulations. I agree. And he thought the courts were out of control. I agree. He thought the border and immigration were out of control and Mexico was taking advantage of us. I agree.

But none of that makes him a conservative and not even a populist. A populist goes along with what he thinks the people want to hear. Trump has held his beliefs on trade and business for a very long time before he ever thought of running.

... do you consider Trump a conservative?

Trump is nothing. He is a man of no moral or ethical standards, he has no philosophy, no values. Trump is an empty suit.

Trump certainly has no ideology, he is purely transactional, he makes deals. Whatever gets him what he wants he will agree to. He doesn't necessarily believe in any of it.

Trump seemed to be a lot more socially liberal during his man about town, Studio 54, Hugh Hefner wanna be days.

I don't think conservatives at that time were big fans of his because of his hedonism. But he was always a law and order guy and although rubbing elbows with all the New York liberal power brokers he seemed to always be more conservative from a fiscal and financial perspective.

But he isn't the first old horndog to become a raving conservative as an older guy.
