This is not about political discussion, just wondering how the system works.

Attached: Even if Dem wins both senate seats in GA in January, then it ends up with "GOP 50 seats; Dem 48 seats; other parties 2 seats".

This is not really 50:50, why Dem would be majority in senate if winning both seats in GA? Why those other parties seats are counted toward Dem party?

Thanks.

If the senate takes a vote and it's a tie, (50-50) the Vice President votes to break the the tie.

The 2 other seats are Independents, Bernie Sanders of Vermont and Angus King of Maine. Independents can choose who they caucus with. Both Sanders and King caucus with the Democrats.

The two independent/third party senators (Bernie Sanders of Vermont, and Angus King of Maine) caucus with the democrats on most votes.
