Hello! Bon Jour! Hola!

It's been a year since my last thread like this and if you follow my posts, you know that I sporadically start threads where black people come and have a dialogue about politics, social status, economics, etc. This is another one of those threads where initial questions will be introduced, followed by “spin-off” topics.

Do you identify as ADOS, FBA, Afro-Carribean, Afro-Latinx, of African descent, or descended elsewhere. Are you a foreign Black person (born and raised outside of the United States).

Do you identify politically as a Democrat, Republic, Independent, or Other (Green Party, Libertarian, etc)?

Do you identify as conservative, liberal, moderate, or other?

What do you think of the 2020 election outcome? What do you think a Biden/Harris presidency means for Black America?

What region are you currently located in?

When it comes to illegal immigration, do you think that it's worse in some areas than others? How should black people address it?

Where do you primarily get your news from? (FOX, CNN, MSNBC, The Blaze, etc?)

What’s the economic climate like for Black people where you currently reside?

How should black people approach mental and physical health? Do you think that this is ignored in black communities?

How about LGBTQ rights? Should we have a louder voice here? Why or why not?

With 2020 being such a rough year for so many, what are your hopes for the year 2021 and beyond?

Looking forward to this discussion as these discussions are very much needed.

I don't know that I've ever responded to one of your threads, not being black, but I like them. Have learned a thing or two.

Glad to hear! It is my hope that folks horizons are broadened. I try to include a mix of conservatives, liberals, and moderates so that a true variety is presented.

I identity as afro latino and as a biracial. I dont identify as latinx. Politically I'm independent. Socially I'm a liberal, economically I'm a fiscal conservative.

The biden/harris presidency like most presidents who hold the office. Tehy won't do much for black people. In America you have to do for yourself.

The economic climate for blacks where I reside? The economics varies. It's probably average. I can say that African and afro Caribbeans do pretty well here. Black American woman who is very studious. Afro latinos varied in economics.

As for illegal immigration. We need to make it easier for folks to apply for U.S residency like an online process instead of going to an embassy. A good example a cuban will have to travel to guyana or Panama to apply for visa to come to thr United States. The process should be less difficult. Also people stay past thier visa and end up stuck here.Something must be done with such people.

For mental health? Ronald Reagan messed up you black people with defunding health care and let you guys spill over into crack cocacaine mix which deveststed the negro urban community. Like David Carroll says. Black people. Take your medication. When I go to the gym. I see afro Latina women working out and African women. I don't see much black American women in thr gym. And if they are in the gym. The American black woman Big in size. Black American woman need to go to the gym. And stop spending money on college books and hair piece. Eat right and put down the cognac.

As for LGBT rights? Live and let live. If somone who is LGBT is happy, than let them. I don't want to ruin everything. I'm good friends with people in LGBT community and I love them equally just as I do with straight people.

As for 2021 I hope for a vaccine, I hope for no stock market crash. I'm looking forward for another roaring 20s.

You shoudo have included religious affiliation and educational background in this.

Last. Should blacks have monolithic thought?

Howdy! I actually plan to introduce those topics later on in the thread as spin off topics. Regarding monolithic thought I'd say no. That's sort of my intent of this thread and other's that I've done in the past-to highlight the fact that black people are not monolithic in thought.

Oh wow, neat how this developed! I'd be interested in reading this. White flight happened in the north as well as the south and it's interesting to see the change of these cities while acknowledging that some minorities were always there.

Guten Tag,

Do you identify as ADOS, FBA, Afro-Carribean, Afro-Latinx, of African descent, or descended elsewhere. Are you a foreign Black person (born and raised outside of the United States).
Um... 1st-ish generation? (parents immigrated from different countries in Africa, and I'm born-and-raised here)

Do you identify politically as a Democrat, Republic, Independent, or Other (Green Party, Libertarian, etc)?
Was reliably Democrat, but now that's shaky.

Do you identify as conservative, liberal, moderate, or other?
Somewhat liberal; I also have some populist and some conservative leanings.

What do you think of the 2020 election outcome? What do you think a Biden/Harris presidency means for Black America?
Unsurprising, and uninspiring. Biden/Harris should be fine for those who own stocks, and I'll be surprised if it's any good for those who don't.

What region are you currently located in?
That big city in the Midwest

When it comes to illegal immigration, do you think that it's worse in some areas than others? How should black people address it?
The concerns about lowering wages shouldn't be ignored, unless one wants to ignore the people that have those concerns - and I don't support ignoring them.

Where do you primarily get your news from? (FOX, CNN, MSNBC, The Blaze, etc?)
NBC/ABC/CBS, Bloomberg, The Hill. All with suspicion.

What’s the economic climate like for Black people where you currently reside?
Not sure, always an outsider. I just know it's good for me.

How should black people approach mental and physical health? Do you think that this is ignored in black communities?
It's a must to respect both; I want the whole thing running smoothly, body and mind. I'm not super familiar with black communities, but my parents were in the university circles, so I didn't see it being ignored. Back in Africa, our relatives are largely doing just as well (in some cases worried about us in the US).

How about LGBTQ rights? Should we have a louder voice here? Why or why not?
Not sure about how loud the voice needs to be, but I support equal rights on this front 100%; I think my family does as well, and probably most relatives. A couple years ago, I did minor advocacy when it came up during a random cafe conversation in Berlin (mostly in German too, despite me being pretty rusty; the guy was nicely patient with me).

With 2020 being such a rough year for so many, what are your hopes for the year 2021 and beyond?
While I individually have a high tolerance for social distancing and staying at home, I'm not convinced that the current state of things is human and sustainable. I would just hope things get closer to "old normal" before we find out the hard way.

ADOS/FBA
Do you identify politically as a Democrat, Republic, Independent, or Other (Green Party, Libertarian, etc)?
Independent
Do you identify as conservative, liberal, moderate, or other?
depends on the issue. moderate would best describe
What do you think of the 2020 election outcome? What do you think a Biden/Harris presidency means for Black America?
indifferent. Black America will either become complacent again, or become frustrated that nothing has been done specifically for blacks again.
What region are you currently located in?
midwest
When it comes to illegal immigration, do you think that it's worse in some areas than others? How should black people address it?
Illegal immigration directly impacts working class blacks. Blacks should be against it. Illegal immigration lowers wages.
Where do you primarily get your news from? (FOX, CNN, MSNBC, The Blaze, etc?)
anywhere decently credible.
What’s the economic climate like for Black people where you currently reside?
meh
How should black people approach mental and physical health? Do you think that this is ignored in black communities?
unfortunately blacks don't have the time and resources to take care of either properly.
How about LGBTQ rights? Should we have a louder voice here? Why or why not?
LGBT is their own separate group. Blacks should not be compared to or linked to other groups issues. We always come up with the short end the stick while the other group benefits.
With 2020 being such a rough year for so many, what are your hopes for the year 2021 and beyond?
I don't know.

You know? I am registered as a Democrat, but I'm kind of center left. I really should be registered as an Independent. Very few Republican's (at least down here) really represent me as well.

Can I ask why you have the most disagreements with the progressive side? I'll admit that they can get a bit out of hand. I'm relatively progressive, but these hardcore progressives do not tolerate any dissenting opinion and THAT would be my biggest issue with them.

I was quite shocked. I thought Trump was going to win again, this was also an interesting night for me because I worked at an election site that Tuesday!

Louisiana for me

In places like California, it's definitely a problem. Compton-for example is no longer predominantly black. Of course, black people along with others are moving to outer lying areas. Also, many companies that were based in California are relocating to the DFW metro area in Texas, so the cultural climate of Dallas-Fort Worth is changing.

I've been trying to step away from mainstream news. I listen to mainly indie news sources on Youtube and Pluto TV these days, along w/ my local news.

WOW! When did that happen? I've been reading about Houston and Dallas and how they seem to have a growing black middle class. But I didn't know the bold.

I live in the South and I'd say that physical health-definitely takes a backseat among black people and white people alike. I'm trying to get healthy/fit during these COVID times, it's going to be a challenge due to gyms being scarce. Sadly, mental health is still a forbidden topic, hence the growing suicide problem.

Amen! Good luck on graduating college! What are you studying?
Sorry it's taken so long to reply. College exams and everything.

Within the democrats I disagree with the progressives because sometimes I think they focus too much on race-based "socialist" policy. Also I think they focus a lot on non-issues. For example talk around microaggressions to me is interesting but it shouldn't be politicized. Especially because most folks that talk about microaggressions in the workplace come from a white-collar background. I believe and face microaggressions too, everyone does, but looking at the overall state of the black community, job security, crime and community beautification are all more important things than some of the issues that get brought up when focusing on racism in the (often white-collar) workspace. I also think the focus on police brutality while important doesn't have a community impact. For example many black neighborhoods issues with crime or wealth easily "outweigh" the issues with police brutality. Of course their should be a focus on it but all the money spent this summer in court, and for BLM, and raised for black people in general related to BLM, could easily revolutionize many inner city neighborhoods from an Aesthetic perspective. I'm seeing companies donate millions to BLM to fight in court or raise awareness, but the local black neighborhood isn't getting as much of the funding. My view is if your giving black organizations money for being black please give a portion of that money to people who can put it to work outside of the legal system. Any fight to end systematic racism should start with economy imho.

That's my issue with the purely "woke" side of progressivism. Now the socialist aspect of progressivism is that they want to redistribute money towards poorer folks but theirs's less of a capitalist incentive. Biden's plan for African Americans for example is all about capitalist incentive. Rather than focusing on poorer folks he's focusing on black job-creators. Which I think in the long-term will help the black community more than focusing solely on the poor. An idea I would like to see implemented is the welfare system coming with mandatory civic classes that focus on wealth of some sort. I'm sure their is legal ramifications for why these don't or can't exist though.

My biggest gripe with democrats in Biden's end and further central is the "warhawk" mentality, from a policy perspective we align pretty well, but I would ditch some of their more progressive beliefs.

I think Texas managed to pass New York and Florida in the past 5-6 years but became the number one in 2017.
Civil Engineering.

Default “Normal” as we know it may be no more

Perhaps something resembling some sense of normalcy will return. That being said, should we long for the “normal” pre-2020?
