My son went to college as an exchange student in Lyon, France. His very elderly French
housemother was born and lived in the chateau, she rented the rooms for exchange students.
She told my son about the time when she was a young tween, riding her bike home in broad
daylight during the occupation. A teenage SS Gestapo stepped in front of her, telling her she
was under arrest for riding too fast. She trembled and shook visibly with fear as she showed
him her papers. She stared at her door, wondering if she would ever see her family again.
The SS burst out laughing. He thought it was so damned funny! Freakin' hilarious!
She didn't. In fact, she never told her father because he was a surgeon and the SS
used his services. They had seized their chateau, but released it back to them when
they decided to use another one for their offices. THAT is the only reason why the
chateau remained in the family. If she would have told her father what happened,
he would have become so enraged that he would have been killed for his reaction.
Now uneducated trump supporters get on social media and claim that the SS was "nice"
to the citizens in Lyon during occupation. There is an elderly woman in France on my
Facebook friends list who would strongly disagree. She remembers never having any
meat to eat the entire occupation, it all went to the SS. They were left with bread and
vegetables, she went to sleep at night listening to horrific screaming that came out of
prison tunnels under the ground.
Please take your Marshal Law fantasy and shove it where the sun don't shine.
