Actually the Republicans did not take control of the Senate in the election of 1860. They only became the majority when the southern states seceded, thus vacating the former democratic seats. So rather than the Morrill tariff causing secession, you may say it was the other way around.
I guess I should read more before commenting, but I do think the south recognized that things were changing which they couldn't stop, and that a sharp rise in tariffs would be the end of slavery whether it was legally abolished or not.
We tend to think of slavery as a profitable institution, you know, free labor must be all profit, right? Not really, slavery was actually barely profitable. You had to feed slaves as children before they could work, and into their old age when they could no longer work. You had to feed and house them even in the times of the year when there wasn't any work to do. You had to provide them healthcare because a slave dying was the equivalent of your house burning down(they were worth a lot of money). And of course, a slave running away was the same kind of loss. In fact, the expense of slaves meant most slave-owners were heavily in debt.
Moreover, the south wasn't rich. The whites in the south were much poorer than the whites in the North. In fact, slavery kept the south poor, and forced free white laborers to compete against literal slave labor. The main thing that kept slavery in place was basically a fear of a "race-war". When the North abolished slavery, the slaves weren't actually freed, they were sold to the south. But if slavery were to be abolished in the south, there was nowhere to send them. And in some cases slaves outnumbered whites.
For instance, Fort Benning in Georgia is named after Confederate General Henry L. Benning, who in 1853 said....

And as John C. Calhoun said in his 1850 speech to Congress...
There is a question of vital importance to the Southern section, in reference to which the views and feelings of the two sections are as opposite and hostile as they can possibly be. I refer to the relation between the two races in the Southern section, which constitutes a vital portion of her social organization. Every portion of the North entertains views and feelings more or less hostile to it. Those most opposed and hostile regard it as a sin, and consider themselves under the most sacred obligation to use every effort to destroy it.
Indeed, to the extent that they conceive that they have power, they regard themselves as implicated in the sin, and responsible for not suppressing it by the use of all and every means. Those less opposed and hostile regard it as a crime–an offense against humanity, as they call it and, altho not so fanatical, feel themselves bound to use all efforts to effect the same object; while those who are least opposed and hostile regard it as a blot and a stain on the character of what they call the “nation,” and feel themselves accordingly bound to give it no countenance or support. On the contrary, the Southern section regards the relation as one which can not be destroyed without subjecting the two races to the greatest calamity, and the section to poverty, desolation, and wretchedness; and accordingly they feel bound by every consideration of interest and safety to defend it."

Nationalists are just tribalists. And their basic supposition is that like-minded people should be together. That a neighborhood where everyone is Christian will tend to be happier and more cohesive than a neighborhood where half are Christian and half are Muslim.
The Nazi's go a bit beyond that because they are racial-essentialists. They believe that the different races are by their nature different from each other, and that this difference will naturally produce a difference of culture, values, and interests. And that the only way to have a cohesive and orderly society is for these distant peoples to remain separated.

Comparing them by their faculties of memory, reason, and imagination, it appears to me, that in memory they are equal to the whites; in reason much inferior, as I think one could scarcely be found capable of tracing and comprehending the investigations of Euclid; and that in imagination they are dull, tasteless, and anomalous. In music they are more generally gifted than the whites with accurate ears for tune and time, and they have been found capable of imagining a small catch. Whether they will be equal to the composition of a more extensive run of melody, or of complicated harmony, is yet to be proved."

The Republican establishment has always hated Trump. They only tolerated him because they had to. They've been looking for an opportunity to dump him without offending his base for four years, while keeping his base riled up for the next election.
Trump is done. Wall Street prefers Biden. The deep-state prefers Biden. The media prefers Biden. The military establishment prefers Biden. Whether Biden cheated doesn't matter. Trump will back down, and things will go back to the way they were always supposed to be.

It's hilarious how some who don't get their way descend to talk of civil war. That's like elementary school playground tantrums multiplied a million times. Grow up, you adult toddlers! You don't own the world. You had you're chance with this laughable "administration", and it all was a horrible joke. This is political capitalism, and the 'market' has spoken and taken back the helm. We did not lose. You cheated. Fraudulent mail in ballots showing up by the truckload at 4 am, suitcases of ballots hidden under tables, rigged dominion machines and dead voters. No we will never accept your sham election.

Even if Trump goes away the divsion isn't going anywhere but rather getting worse. Nearly half the country believes the election was stolen regardless of what you think. And Biden and Harris are already pushing the gun control agenda. I figure the last thread holding the country together is the economy. When the economy crashes there are going to be enough people with nothing left to lose, and filled with hate of the other side, that I would be surprised if it doesn't happen.
With the high prices of ammo , lately, who will be able to afford a civil war ?
