I have never met anyone offended by the phrase "Merry Christmas" and neither has anybody else in this thread, and you know it.

Lots of people screeching hysterically that their freedoms are being taken away if every single person in the world doesn't say "Merry Christmas" to them, though.

Or self righteous assertions that they are the only brave souls willing to risk public scorn (which doesn't exist) for saying the forbidden words (which aren't).

If your faith is so fragile that you need constant affirmation of your holiday from Starbucks cups, Macy's shopping bags, and every Walgreen's clerk, maybe do some self-examination.

The obvious answer is that the day IS celebrating something. Changing the name from "Christmas" to "holidays" isn't fooling anyone. We all know what it is celebrating. So, what we have is more PC crowd nonsense.

Do you know what's being celebrated? Really?

Right now, it's Hanukkah. Yesterday was St. Lucia's Day. When I wish someone Happy Holidays, I mean both of those holidays, both of which I celebrate, in addition to Christmas while the latter means absolutely nothing to me. It doesn't make sense to wish someone a Merry Christmas two weeks before the actual day, especially when it falls during another popular holiday.

I'll wish people who I know celebrate Christmas "Happy Christmas" on the 23rd on.

I choose not to celebrate Argentina's independence day, mainly because it doesn't mean anything to me personally and does not apply to me culturally. What I don't do is celebrate the day anyway and call it "Mr. Snuffleupagus Day." If it doesn't mean anything to you... don't celebrate it whilst trying to disguise it as something it is not.
There are many holidays at this time of year. Can you tell which one people celebrate? I can't.

I once wished a recent immigrant from Asia Merry Christmas. She was confused and asked why everyone kept saying that to her. I asked her which holiday she celebrated and she told me, so I wished her a good day for that holiday. After that, if I didn't know which holiday someone celebrated, I started saying Happy Holidays.

Since it's currently Hanukkah/Chanukah, Happy Hanukkah to you.

Merry Christmas to All. And a Happy New Year.
There I said It. I am an Atheist. I still go around saying it. It does not offend me at all.

I was not always a Non-Believer. I have always enjoyed the Lights, sounds traditions, music of the Holiday Season.
About the Only people I have personally met who do not like Christmas are certain religious factions, Specifically Jehovah's Witness, Church of Christ, and Seventh Day Adventist. And of those three, only a few people from the second group have ever made the mistake of trying to stop my enjoyment and celebration of it. (they failed, BTW)
The rest of the people I have sent greetings to over the past several decades seem to enjoy it.
So Merry Christmas to All... and Be Kind to one another.
