Like a lot of reasonably well-educated Americans who retain a skeptical attitude toward the manipulative inclinations of the mainstream media, I've tried to walk a narrow path between following a common-sense strategy of self-preservation, remaining able to function on a daily basis, and recognizing that everyone else has rights as well.
The latest release of information regarding the transmission of COVID, supplanting irrational reaction with an approch based on recognized scientific evidence, represents a huge step in the right direction.
I have serious concerns about screwing with genes. It's fine if you want to increase crop production or something, but playing around with human beings is an entirely different ballgame.
The problem with these approaches is that they identify which gene is significant to a thing, but they don't necessarily know what else it's significant to. It's not like each gene is a switch for a single, specific biological function and they can turn things on and off at will.
I'm not even thinking about "screwing with genes"; the point is simply that once we get a better picture of exactly who among us is more susceptible to this plague -- we can move beyond the "lowest common denominator" measures which shackle all of us and diminish the opportunities for some of the closeted megalomaniacs over there in Left Field to wield the authority and power which is their real goal -- and addiction.

Seriously, you propose doing a deep dive into genetic testing of the masses to determine who MIGHT have predisposition to serious disease? That is utterly irrational compared to the simple measures of social distancing and mandatory mask wearing until now available vaccines can be widely deployed.

The goal of this testing is to identify new treatments, so they can lower the risk for those with severe symptoms. I don't think mass testing would be practical, although a quick test of symptomatic people might be useful for triage purposes.
One again -- I personally am NOT advocating any sort of genetic experimentation -- that is someone else's power trip.
The only thing I want to see is a means of better-identifying and advising those who are most susceptible to this plague -- so that the majority of us who don't fall into a one-size-must-fit-all category can dispense with the most cumbersome of the restrictions of a bureaucracy whose real goal is their own self-promotion and aggrandizement.

It will be over with in 4 months if we can get enough vaccine and enough people to take it. Of course, there will be more especially given the habitat destruction going on in China and tropical regions. So continuing to investigate genetic weaknesses may play an important role in future outbreaks.

Whatever the subject of the argument, the fine art of statecraft usually boils down to a dispute between those who believe that a benevolent-despotic state can decide what's best for all of us (or sometimes, just for those individuals and causes deemed "worthy" by the elite), and those who maintain a strong skepticism toward the concentration of power regarding any issue.
It's obvious that we are on opposite sides of the battle line here.
