In short - if you are poor, you should not be liable for, well, any crime.

If you read the whole article, the prosecutor says that they already don't prosecute for those crimes and instead use diversion programs.

I'm ok with that for minor stuff, see if they can get cleaned up and back into society because jail isn't going to accomplish that and society just has to pay for them there too.

It's not that it's ok, it's just how you decide to approach changing that situation going forward.

Otherwise you just wind up with the same addicts etc. bouncing back and forth between prison and the streets and being a perpetual problem for years, if not decades, until they die.

Human nature suggests that particular political experiment is not going to go well.

You are correct and since this is sorta how they've already been operating, the plague of homeless drug users and petty crime in Seattle are pretty well known at this point.

Sad to say this and I've had friends\family in this situation or with kids in it and frankly if they're going to get clean and get back to real life then great. Otherwise, I hope when they eventually overdose it's sooner than later to spare the family the extra years of pain and misery.

Why are the Dems trying to get even softer on crime? I do understand that in some cases such as in the article a guy was arrested for trying to steal a coat at the Good Will shop. The question was, did he really need that coat?

What the Dems often overlook is that there is always a victim in any crime. Maybe the victims should have more of a say as to what happens to the criminal that just stole from them or damaged their property.

I was on youtube at lunch and fell on a video that must have been from a series based on a beach in Australia. They kept having problems with perverts on the beach taking photos of young women and hitting on them etc.. The guy would often be escorted from the beach and in some cases arrested but he would often come back and do it again. The girls were not happy to have their half naked photos they did not consent to on some jerks camera. The guys would get a slap on the wrist if they were arrested. I think the girls should have been allowed a free punch of kick to the perverts to really teach them a lesson but then again I'm more of an eye for an eye type.

I just don't like how we are supposed to feel badly for the criminals while forgetting about the victims that never asked to have to have their day ruined by some predatory thief.
