So I'm of a certain age and I've noticed that whenever a side loses the first thing that some one screams is that we'll soon be "communist".

so let's start with the 50's and Sen McCarthy's witch hunt
then of course they swore Dr. MLK was going to lead the country to communism simply for wanting equal rights
Oppose the vietnam war, you were labeled a "commie"
Some reason why Feminism equated communism
Gay rights was definitely going to do us in.

lol, forget when Obama was elected, people swore we would somehow be muslim and communist (don't know how we were going to pull that one off)

And now someone of course said "enjoy the slide into communism" due to President elect Joe Biden.

I'm starting to wish I had 100 bucks every time some one made this prediction, I could retire.

can we please at least get a new "ism"

Haven't you been paying attention? Racism is the most popular "ism" right now.

I hope it dies down in my lifetime; unfortunately, I have a lot of years left (assuming I don't take the vax, lol).
Anyway, I'm mostly fine by tuning it out, but one can dream.

Onanism?

"Commie" is a curt, succinct insult, from which there is no rejoinder, other than to protest that the accusation was leveled unfairly. No serious person, Western or Eastern, would embrace communism as anything like an ideal, or even a useful set of ingredients from which to weave a better society. So to insinuate, however unfairly, that one's antagonist is even remotely a communist sympathizer, is a devastating put-down.

Because it is more accurate than screaming "racism."

Republican voters are deliberately ignorant when it comes to labeling political ideology. "Communist" and "socialist" get thrown around a lot by the most ignorant segment of the right wing when describing moderate republicans like Joe Biden. They think it makes them seem smart or avant garde when it really just confirms their stupidity.

"Classism" should be at the top of the list.

The funny thing is that conservatives have managed to sell the term better than Marx & Engels could have dreamt of.
  • You want a living wage? Communism!
  • Universal healtcare? Communism!
  • Stop us from destroying the biosphere? Communist plot!
  • Make billionaires pay taxes? Communist thinking!
  • Dampen the excesses of the MIC? Oh, the Communists would like that, wouldn't they?
  • You support anyone to the left of Trump? OMG Communism!!

Then they wonder "How come people suddenly take a liking to the idea?" Because in their eagerness to make popular concepts look bad, the made communism look good.
