Mitch main focus right now is to secure those two GA senate seats. He will do anything to maintain power. He will deal with Trump once this task is complete. If they were to happen to lose these seats (highly unlikely) you can expect all hell to break loose in the republican party. The blame game would be epic.

Mitch is one of Trumps biggest allies if he says its over then its over the game is over.

Plus Mitch wants those two Senate seats and all the doubt on the election might put those seats in jeopardy.
Mitch is all about power he won't let them slip away.

Since when is it appropriate to wait for the electoral college vote, not the last several elections. I see that Mo Brooks is still trying to get another senator to join him in blocking the states. This isn't about McConnell's instincts it's about his fear of Trump if he were to congratulate Biden.

Mitch is Mitch’s biggest ally.
Trump was a useful idiot he could hide behind while implementing his own agenda.
All of the court appointments, his wife appointed transportation secretary, millions in federal dollars funneled to Kentucky...

His finally deciding to do the right thing and recognize that many more millions of people voted for Biden over Trump is hardly cause for celebration.
He’s still a snake in the grass and always will be.

Of course what more can Mitch want from Trump? He got his judges, Tax cuts, deregulation. At this point McConnell and the establishment want Trump to go away.

And hold on to the Majority so they can have leverage over Biden.

I agree here. Mitch is looking out for himself and the gop and not Trump and Maga. Trump is an useful idiot just as much as how BLM and black leaders are useful idiots for Joe biden. Clearly your rank and file American especially maga and blm don't understand the nature of American politics.

With that said. Nothing to see here kids. Move along. Just business as usual.

Note that Moscow Mitch didn't congratulate Joe Biden until after Vladimir Putin did. Clearly Moscow Mitch was waiting for Vlad to give him the go-ahead.

Why are people so ignorant about how the US runs? Odd. Learn about how things work.
In most election years, the Electoral College is a formality. We don't follow it because we don't need to. Most elections, we know who wins the Electoral College based on returns on Election Night or the morning after. Sure, some states might be close, but if one candidate is leading with large margins in states worth 340 EV, it won't matter if one close state flips after a recount. Even in 2020, the largest vote change during recounts was about 2,000 votes.

In normal times, we can extrapolate the winner from Election Night based on the following:

- We know how many Electoral Votes each state has
- We have a good idea of who won each state since recounts rarely change the winner of the state
- If a candidate has "recount-proof" margins in enough states, that gives an added level of confidence
- Electors generally vote for the candidates they are sworn to vote for
- Congress always accepts the Electors when counted on the House floor in January

This is why in nearly every election in the last 100+ years, except for 2000 and 2020, that we knew who the winner would be shortly after the election. 2020 is special case not because the election was close but because of the volume of mail-in ballots that had to be counted. However, the margins Biden won by are not that different than what Trump won by in 2016 or what Bush won by in 2004 (which was closer than it appeared on Election Night 2004).

The fact that people say:
- We should wait for the safe harbor date when all states have certified!
- We should wait for the Electors to vote!
- We should wait for the Electors to be counted in January!

is just dragging out the inevitable. When was the last time a President-Elect didn't become President? I can't recall a single time. Since the winner is based on Electoral projections after the votes are counted, there is nothing subjective left.

Trump won in 2016 with tighter margins than Biden did. We recognized Trump won shortly after the vote was done being counted. Not a month after the vote was being counted.
