Also remember guys local authorities will have some leadway. The cdc is giving "guidelines" but the states and municipalities will have options. for example, big cities got extra dosages of the initial vaccine so while that seems "unfair", if you're goal is the keep your hospitals from collapsing under the weight of this surge, you make strategic hits.
If I've only got a limited supply, I can't go first come first serve.

This is sickening! The focus should be 100% on people over 50 years old! 100%!!!

Why?

95% of deaths are people over 50 years old. Lets look at the numbers to understand my obvious intelligence.

COVID deaths US 318K

If you had everyone 50 years old or older vaccinated from the start deaths would be 15,900. Deaths every day in the US are about 7,500. That would mean COVID would be about meaningless!

Age is priority. NOT RACE!!!!! I hate the left! Idiots!

Again where is the leadership at the top providing guidance for the states? Isn’t Trump still president? He’s been out to lunch a lot lately, fueling conspiracy theories.

how this became an attack on those complaining about race-based priority is beyond ..... wait, no, on city-data, its totally predictable there is no question about a racist policy where the huge population majority is at a disadvantage. The reason is - 'just because'.

are all people of color top priority? have they all been careless, do they ALL live next to each other, especially hispanics?

i dont care much, but yeah, this is racist.

It's not about "ALL", it's about numbers.

No they have not all been careless, but you are making the assumption that anyone who gets the virus is careless and that is simply NOT true.

again, read the article.

Right now, you have a limited supply of medicine so a SMART program would be to target the population, whether it be white, black, pink with purple polka dots that has the highest concentration of infections and deaths.
THE OBJECT IS TO LOWER THE SPREAD, keep hospitals from becoming stressed and collapsing and to lower the death count.

but to answer you're question, no not all minorities would get top priority and they won't

what you are missing is that neighborhoods are not fully, 100% of one demographic. What about the non-colored person in a mostly person of color neighborhood?

it should be left for regional leaders to decide (say, allegheny county level), and target where they feel it is most needed.

for your first sentence, my post points that not all people of color HAVE been careless, and/or have not contracted the virus, therefore being an argument against this "advised" practice.

Next can you flip the density issues, who makes up the population in the high density areas? Remember at the beginning of the pandemic you had a number of people actually trying to flee the cities. Most minorities could not.

So it's not apples to apples comparison.

Again if you are talking straight effectiveness in trying to lower the rate of hospitalization and deaths any public health official will try to do the most effective plan
The ability to stay at home or work from home is an issue of socioeconomics, not race. There are people of all skin colors living pay check to paycheck as essential workers stocking grocery store shelves, working in factories, driving delivery trucks, etc. Shouldn’t they all have equal access to the vaccine?

The issue of population density is one of density, not race. If you want to target high density areas, send a script to everyone within a certain zip code. Sure, there were plenty of rich folks who fled the city to go to their home in the Hamptons, or wherever, but to suggest all people with white skin have the means to just jet off to their vacation home is silly.

and they will, lol see this is how you can tell that folks did not read the article. no where in the article does it say "white folks willnot get the vaccine" or " only blacks folks will get the vaccine"

Guys please read the recommendations. IT PLAINLY SAYS THAT THE NEXT GROUP OF PEOPLE WILL BE grocery store employees, teachers, police officers.

NOW in major cities the majority of lower paid front line workers just happen to be minorities.

lol, you guys are reacting to a thread title that, as another poster was just another thinly veiled swipe at the Govenor.

I won't even get into the fact that op's link is to a tabloid paper but that's another story.

let me just say that no, initially the vaccine will not be available to everyone equally. that would be stupid and irresponsible. The object of public health is to prevent the pandemic from spreading and becoming catastrophic. that takes priority. we're currently working on the first, two initial sectors, I suspect the next emphasis will be the "hot spots" .

so no everyone will not and should not have equal access, that would be a cluster you know what. now hopefully by june there will be more than enough vaccine for every tom dick and harry.

Don’t bother arguing. These people are white supremacists who will never argue in good faith.

I really don't understand the attitude that doing something to help black people - by definition - means you're making it worse for white people.

The world is not zero sum.
