Not sure if you are agreeing with me or not. The rich are the elite. They are the power structure. They control the congressmen that make our laws. The police and military work in their interests. They control the jobs, the banks, the judiciary, the markets. It's their club, we are the raw materials they use to maintain their wealth and power. I agree with those posters who said we are not slaves as others in the world are slaves. If you follow all the rules and work on their behalf for a lifetime you can have the American Dream. But it's light years from their American Reality.

My problem is rewarding irresponsible behavior. We are becoming a lazy, overweight, decadent, entitled society that thinks they have a God given right to simply be given everything. No. Just no. To qualify for aid, someone should be required to work 90% of their working life if they are able, and they should be punished for behaviors such as having too high of a BMI and other risk factors like we already do with smoking.

If we have single payer we can take the health care burden off employers. We can even supplement people's income if their job has insufficient pay.. but to simply give them money to sit on their ass? No. No.
alot of this describes not the "poor" but the wealthy and corporations. pretty much every time there's a crisis and a stimulus is needed corporations have their hands out ahead of working lower middle class people. Joel Osteen just took out a 4.4 million dollar loan and this man is already rich. Why? Banks get bailouts yet these are people that should have their ducks in a row but they are begging for handouts, while people complain that a person making 30,000k a year is asking for a livable wage or a decent stimulus. And often when these mega corporations get bailouts, the people at the top give themselves raises that just so happen to coincide with the bailouts. They reward themselves for bad behavior and many of these people don't really massive amounts of work all day.

If the maga corporations don’t get a bailout, how many people would become unemployed when they go into bankruptcy?

Spoken by someone who seems to not have even a little clue about anything. Even the rich would disagree with you.

The top federal US tax rate is 37%. Buch rich people have accountants that shelter their earnings, so only a stupid rich person pays that much. But then you have to consider how they earn their money. They don't get a wage. They get investment income, stock options, they make deals, serve on boards of directors. So really their earnings are created by their employees, stockholders, the stock market, etc. They may make many millions a year, even billions, doing less work than we do.

Because you were in a very favorable position pre-Great Recession, therefore it's easier to go back near the top. You already had a very nice home in a pricey area, good net worth, good resume, excellent social and professional network, not sure of your wife works or not-if so its even easier. Privileged folks SHOULD have an easier time coming back to previous affluence after a temporary setback. Almost anyone near "the top" usually has a better cushion which with to rebuild with.

ya and once the government gets its mitts on that money, we can trust its not going for themselves or dirty deals and a fraction to the actual needy? kinda like now? whatever we give, will be illspent.
