If there was ever any doubt that the plug should be pulled on public funding for NPR this should seal the deal, but it won't. Cardi B's big hit WAP, the actual title and lyrics of which would get me permanently banned from CD if I spelled them out, was their pick for #1 on their top 100 songs of 2020. You'd expect the lefty feminists to be screaming their outrage over the misogynistic theme of WAP, but instead we hear crickets.
Yeah yeah, we get it -- the threadbare "shock the squares" gambit.
Yeah, shocking the squares has come a long way since the Rolling Stones sang "Let's spend the night together" in 1967. "WAP" is like something National Lampoon writers might have penned when they were drunk and somebody said, "Hey, what if pop song lyrics really were dirty?
The fact that they would highlight such a vile selection of what passes as "music" as their pick for #1 says much about what NPR is about. I used to listen to NPR and the cool, passive tone of their hosts (sounded like they were all dosing on valium) when I was in my 20's wanting to be part of the hip (or now woke) crowd. Then I grew up and realized they lean heavily left.
Every time anyone suggest cutting the "minuscule" public funding the lefties scream and stamp their feet. Bush didn't go far enough. PBS/NPR are clearly a channel for left wing propaganda. And highlighting trash like Cardi B, trying to pretend it's art should be an insult to anyone with an IQ over 90.
Meh.
Mentioning it as one of 200 top songs of the year is a huge Nothing At All. Just another typical end-of-year show.
So what if you don't like NPR? Turn the dial. There's plenty of right wing propaganda on it. Find something that suits you.
Makes me all tingly inside knowing that artists like this are being put on pedestals. Songs for adults and yet their offspring will be listening to this too.
Yet people still wonder why there's no morals, high numbers of teenage pregnancy, fatherless families....
