Yet it was $600 in the bill she originally introduced and had no issues.

Trump requested the $2,000, Pelosi said OK. The House passed the request to the Senate, the Republicans voted no.

The bill is both the continuing resolution to fund the government as a whole and Cares Act 2.

They "passed" this bill (a bill that is loaded with things they "say" they knew nothing about because they didn't have time to read it) FOUR days before Christmas because they wanted to go home to enjoy their Christmas holiday.

It seems highly unlikely that they had no idea that DJT wasn't planning to sign it,...

The longer you have to think about this, the more apparent it is that this whole thing stinks.
So,... they all went home for their holiday pretending that they actually care about the needs of American citizens.

Mitch said, "the American people need more help and it's long overdue.."

DJT, said "it's not enough money"..

Meanwhile... nothing is being done to help anyone.

Yeah..Congress thought giving some of us (income restrictions) $600 was "caring" and that is what they passed.

$600 is NOT enough money to help anyone who is in dire straights.

The GOP in Congress did not want to give anyone more money. That is why this has been going on for MONTHS...
there's simply NO EXCUSE.

I think we've been played.

It is true that there is all kinds of junk in the bill that should be removed; and the amount per head is certainly debatable. But Donald knows that $2K per head is a non-starter and in express opposition to what GOP wants. He's not really serious. That's the integrity and character of this President.

He just wants to set fire to this, sit back and enjoy the flames, and watch government hopefully shut down after Christmas, and maximize whatever message can for Congress and the Biden administration. The more he can do to get back at people who wouldn't support his coup, the more damage he can do, the better. If he can sabotage more, he will.

And if Americans happen to take collateral damage over this, so be it.. he's gonna be enjoying the weather at his Mar-a-Lag palace, and you won't.
... and that's what Ambient said.

I think both of you are correct.
For many, many years, the federal budget has never passed into law because neither party will bargain enough to get it done.
So, for at least 30 years now, Congress waits until the very last moment, and then signs an emergency bill in a rush, to keep the United States solvent for a few more months.

If there is some bone of contention at that moment, the emergency bill is a good thing to hold hostage to getting your way. (Or attempting to.)
The nicest thing of all is the House can try to get its way, or the Senate, or the President. An emergency funding bill is perfect material for hostage taking by all 3 branches of Congress.

So- does Trump want to get even? He sure does. Does Mitch wasn't to sabotage stimulus? Yes, sir! Unless it helps him in some way. Same with Nancy.
Every Senator who's in trouble at home wants some hostage built into the emergency funding bill, as does every Representative.

The emergency bills are also a great way to shove massive pork down the throats of the taxpayer.

When the only treasury in the world that has never defaulted is about to for the first time, both Congress and the taxpayers cannot refuse to swallow the pork.

Emergencies have proven to be very useful. Both parties can get what they want without having to confront each other in deadlock, the taxpayers can't do anything, and nothing has to be fixed because the government did not slam to a sudden dead stop.

It won't change until all of us vote our favorite guys out of office for their continuing this. Once congress is tossed out every 2 years like old garbage, I reckon it will take about 4 elections for them to get the point and being doing their job again.

No one wants to live within the constraints of a tight budget. Once forced, it can become habitual.

But to force Congress into anything, the lion has to be slaughtered along with the lamb, both at the same time.

I try to be a realist. Firing an entire Congress in 3 elections (it would demand 3) is impossible. But forcing them to go back to the hard work of putting a budget together and using it is not impossible. It's just really difficult.
