Covid-19 has a survival rate of 99.9%. ~1 out of 1,000 who get it will die, and that number is falling due to improved treatments, those w/ the anti-bodies, and now the vaccine rollout. The vast majority who die, are mostly 70+ years old, & have co-morbidities.

Thus, cases are not nearly as important as actual deaths. Deaths must be the focus of any comparison.

Democrat controlled states are the deadliest by far. NJ, NY, MA, CT, RI, are 5 of the top 6 deadliest in deaths per million population.

The Republican controlled states that are above the average rate of deaths, are less populated states like the Dakota's and Mississippi, whereas the Dem controlled states w/ above average death rates are heavily populated like NY, NJ, PA, Il, MI.

I am the only one totally tired and bored of the red state blue state stuff regarding the pandemic? I am a states rights Libertarian if states want to trample on people civil liberties that is something people in those states should fight against or at least vote out the politicians responsible. Or not. Its their call not mine or yours.

The factors regarding the spread of the virus spans beyond partisan politics.

Source is the same as in my OP. Click on: View --> Deaths just above the left side of the map.

The worst one on your list is Connecticut, which is ranked 14th.
New York is ranked 16th.
Massachusetts is 17th.
New Jersey is 25th.
Those are 7 day averages the numbers I quoted were cumulative totals to date from the World Meter Site
Either way some very remote states performing very poorly.

The top 5 states in Deaths per million to date and yes of course more populated states that were impacted in February would have a higher death rate, many states that were later in the wave had the benefit of improved medical advances. The question is why are the less populated states like the Dakotas on par with high density east coast states.

NY
NJ
Mass
North Dakota
Conn
Rhode Island
South Dakota

Because of the small household sizes states like Vermont, Washington and Oregon will be open very soon with very few COVID-19 cases and the economies will be ready to roar like never before because the residents prefer to live in one or two person households and not a dozen to a house like parts of Phoenix or LA.

Vermont has a Republican governor. Vermont governor Republican Phil Scott

Vermont has done an excellent job on keeping their numbers but because of the small household sizes, respectful residents who stay at home when ill and they don't have multiple generations in a house partying night after night.

California, Nevada, Arizona have done a terrible job because they have massive amounts of the population for what ever reason likes to have four generations under roof and have massive parties every night during a pandemic.

The zip codes with a massive amount of cases in Phoenix for example tend to be full of people who prefer to have four generations under roof of a small, dumpy shack with parties all the time.
FYI....I live in VT and the economy here does NOT 'roar.' Ever.

Deal with it.
Do you live here? The governor may be a 'republican,' but make no mistake, this place is run by the Dems. Period.

Well, winter doesn't stop most people in VT.
18 degrees yesterday and saw a few hardy souls out in shorts and crocs. No lie. We have lives to live here, we are just careful and trying to abide by the regulations until we get the vaccination.
