I'd take slightly higher taxes to offset the premiums, deductibles, co-pays, etc... I've lived in countries with single-payer systems and they're not only better at delivering care, THEY ARE CHEAPER!
What most Americans don't understand is that if you earn $120,000k a year in the U.S., you are actually paying more out of pocket for your healthcare than you would in a place like Canada even with the slightly higher taxes. In other words, Canadians keep more of what they earn.
And God help you if you actually get sick and need your health insurance in the U.S. It will cost you many, many thousands more out of pocket than it would in a country with a single payer system.
Are you basing this cost on a per person rate or family rate? Does the same worker who earns $120k Canadian pay the same dollar amount as the $120k worker with 4 dependents? Or is it based on employee, employee + depdendent or family rate like it is here in the US?
What you seem to be not understanding about the Canadian universal health care system is this.
No one in Canada is being " forced " to do anything. WE want everyone to be covered, regardless of their income level or station in life. That's is why the word "Universal " is used. Because everyone is included. Canadians do it this way. Americans are free to do it some other way.
We choose to take care of each other as a nation. What's wrong with that ?
You explain it so well. Every Canadian gets sort of the same treatment regardless of his or her wealth
what is your pt?
Anyway, it is moot pt now. JT says let it go. So, if you get the $ by "mistake," you can keep it. In the end, it is true that Canadians receive MORE stimulus funds than the US.
I am in BC, so where do you live?
It happened to my mom a few times. After the first visit, the specialists just referred my mom either back to the GP, the hospitals' clinics, or other specials in the same field, with no follow-up visit. Just saying they have a way to do it.

So you Canadian voluntarily pay into your healthcare system? If you don’t want to pay, there is no consequence?
Also, is everybody paying the same amount or some people are being forced to pay more?
Mm hmm. It's easy to be Canada. Their national pastime is criticizing the US. It makes then feel superior comparing apples to oranges.
Wait, wait, did you just miss the part about this being a thread created by AN AMERICAN who was stating they preferred the method of pandemic income relief chosen by Canada?
Then you must have just slept through all the posts done by other Americans jumping on to criticize Canada and Canadians with nonsense about us being slaves forced at gunpoint to pay for other peoples healthcare.
Wake up and actually read the threads you contribute to or just remain blissfully ignorant of who it is that both starts these threads and contribute the bulk of the "criticizing" posts to them.
You can hardly blame Canadians for correcting lies as told about them by Americans.
The United States has been taking care of their defense for centuries and all the Americans got from the Canadians is idiotic criticism.
Why then is it the only "rubber hitting the road" of one country actually defending is when Canada has come to the aid of Americans.
Remember Iran Embassy staffers?
Remember Operation Yellow Ribbon?
When did the U.S. do ANYTHING similar on behalf of Canada? NEVER.
