Google, Facebook, et al are not monopolies.

Not are they utilities. It can be argued that internet service is a utility, but neither is internet service a monopoly the way electric, water, sewer, gas services are monopolies, albeit regulated monopolies.

The faux conservatives crying for more government again. Their principles are completely guided by Trump's latest tweet.

Wouldn't the repeal of 230 mean less government, not more government?

Actually, no, the civil law courts are part of government. Without some protection from liability the internet could not exist as it does now. Our courts would be pretty busy or internet participation would be greatly reduced.

Why doesn't the right try to police the worst offenders in their midst? The QAnon nuts and the Alex Jones conspiracy theorists?

Historically both sides have used half truths, twisted statistics and outright lies to persuade others. However, the continuous conspiracy theories on the right the last few years I've seen nothing like it before. Some of it lead by our current President.

The fact is an unbiased platform wishing to censor outright lies would be censoring the right a lot more than the left these days.

There's a free market solution. Use it. If you think QAnon is spouting the truth there's plenty of places on the internet. Unlike our airwaves the number of websites available is practically unlimited.

I'm a member of the right and what I've seen is the rise of the lunatic right in the last few years and it's bad for the Republican Party and it's bad for our country.

Maybe some think getting people riled up with the craziest conspiracy theories drives people to vote. Maybe there is some truth to that. I don't think it's worth it. I'd rather see four years of Biden, though I sure as hell hope the Republicans keep the Senate, than the party of the right continue to go down this path. The maskless morons, and their ilk, need to be defeated.

I used to think conspiracy theorists were a small minority of harmless nuts. I've discovered there's a lot more of them than I thought and, since this pandemic, they are quite harmful, responsible for business shutdowns and thousands of lives lost.

Let me also add it's blatantly obvious Trump's calling for revoking section 203 is an attempt to scare Facebook and Twitter into changing their policies.

But the left-run major ""platforms"" are using the excuse of QAnon and Alex Jones, to censor legitimate news sources, like the NY Post. I don't have a problem when it comes to blocking out the crazy conspiracy theorists, ao long as they are blocking them from both sides, but when they start applying a litmus test to right leaning legitimate news sources, while allowing a free-for-all with left leaning news sources, then they have crossed a line that makes them no longer a platform. If they are not a platform, then they should be offered no protection.

Ya might just think that maybe a utility has to be regulated because it's not economically efficient to run two gas lines or two phone lines? That doesn't apply to the internet. The internet isn't a natural monopoly.

How much government do ya faux conservatives want?

How many postings after yours, until a leftist says.... nope, no free speech issue, it's their website, they can do what they want.

I guess we are going to have to disagree. I think revoking Section 203 would almost certainly lead to less ability for most of us to express our opinions on the internet. I think there's enough available platforms that are available. I also think conservatives may think twice about reform on 203 if Kamala is presiding over the Senate.

Favoring property rights is a conservative value. At least it was.
