Don't be fooled. One of America's ugliest days occurred on January 06, 2021. The President of the United States, Donald Trump, gathered a mob of misfits, malcontents and white nationalists, riled them up with lies and propaganda and anger and provoked them into an attempted coup of our nation's government. Trumpism desired to raise foreign flags in place of the stars and stripes. Trump is rightly charged with incitement to insurrection.

The former President of the United States of America created a very BIG LIE, tore apart the nation with it, and then incited an invasion of the U.S. Capitol.

The House has impeached Trump for inciting insurrection because what occurred at the Capitol on January 06, 2020 was insurrection.

A special shout out to Josh Hawley and Ted Cruz for their effort to subvert democracy and undermine the Constitution and our rule of law and overthrow the very government to which they swore an oath to protect and defend. Much like the impeached Donald Trump wouldn't you say?
Yes. The lies are being tested with every post. I would expect some of these Trumpist lies to show up in the Senate trial.
The truth is the only way out for our Democracy

Democracy prevailed this time, but it is shocking and profoundly disappointing, to me, that there are American citizens who continue to believe an insurrection on our soil can be defended. There is no alternative side here --- one is either for the United States of America or against it... as the entire world witnessed the attempted coup and deadly 4 hour insurrection unfold.

It seems that we have an ongoing struggle to save American democracy from Trumpism.

Yes the endless effort to paint this as not that bad and what’s the big deal.

One could remain open to the possibility that this was less than the ‘armed insurrection’ Ms. Pelosi is depicting in the 3rd set of impeachment articles. Remembering the first two were based on Russia collusion (LOL) and Hunter Biden/Ukraine corruption (hmmmm) respectively. (And in this 3rd instance case Trump has completed his term and is in Florida).

At the same time it is true that the only shot fired in the ‘armed insurrection’ was a single shot fired by a police officer killing an unarmed female Trump supporter. And there is that pesky detail that the folks inside the Capitol Building for the ‘armed insurrection’ had no firearms.

So that’s all good.

Just "random troublemakers" that the Trump campaign paid million to bus to DC.

One important thing a conviction would do is end the regular security briefings.

The temptation for T**** to monetize the top secret/classified information he continues to have access to will only increase as banks turn their backs on him.

It wouldn't though, the Senate has no authority to hold a trial in order to convict a private citizen who holds no office of anything. In fact, attempting to do so would be a civil rights violation.

Since they have no right to try a private citizen that doesn't hold an office, they certainly can't "convict" that person of anything especially when you consider that we're not talking about any actual crime. If the Senate attempts to hold a trial, expect them to be slapped by SCOTUS for it. They are not the judiciary and they will not be allowed to overstep their authority.

Nah. This was a violent uprising against our government. The very definition of insurrection. Your alternative facts and mischaracterization of truth, on the other hand, define Trumpism to a T.

Trump has been defeated, but Trumpism remains a clear and present danger to democracy.

There will not be a conviction. If there were enough votes to convict, they would not even be holding the senate trial. Because if they convict him, they would be like the dog who finally caught the car.

They would be the first senate to convict a private citizen in an impeachment trial. Then Trump will challenge the constitutionality of the conviction. The court will read the constitution, and find that it says that only public officials can be impeached, and they will overturn the conviction. Then the senate will look like a bunch of vindictive asses with a political agenda. They dont want that, but since they know this will not lead to a conviction, they may as well put on a show for the people.
