Hawley fund raising during the mob attack, he and others who instigated this need to step down.
Quote:
No one other than President Donald Trump himself is more responsible for Wednesday’s coup attempt at the U.S. Capitol than one Joshua David Hawley, the 41-year-old junior senator from Missouri, who put out a fundraising appeal while the siege was underway.
This, Sen. Hawley, is what law-breaking and destruction look like. This is not a protest, but a riot. One woman who was apparently part of the pro-Trump mob was fatally shot by Capitol Police as lawmakers took cover. Some of those whose actions Trump encouraged and later condoned brought along their Confederate flags.
And no longer can it be asked, as George Will did recently of Hawley, “Has there ever been such a high ratio of ambition to accomplishment?” Hawley’s actions in the last week had such impact that he deserves an impressive share of the blame for the blood that’s been shed.
Hawley and others provided false hope. Let's face it: The pro-Trumpers who took part in this assault on the Capitol are not the brightest bulbs, and some thought the election could be overturned, because they listened to people like Hawley and Trump.
PA's Mike Kelly brought up ACT 77 as some unconstitutional law that resulted in a 'fraudulent' election. It is interesting to note that yesterday none of the claims were of dead people voting, illegals, children...it was all about changes in laws being 'unconstitutional'. That particular law was passed a year before the 2020 election, in a GOP run state legislature with full bi-partisan support. But he let people think it was some kind of sneaky, underhanded, Democrat trick used to trick voters. It wasn't. Trump lost and they tried to find a reason to suggest the lost wasn't because he just lost.
That is scary -- that these people chose to mislead voters into thinking there was deep devious plan to cheat. They were careless with their accusations and careless with the lives of their peers, and those in the mob.
There is no defending that.
I suspect Trump really didn't bother to examine their claims, and listen to why much of the claims were not valid. Trump wanted a reason he loss and these folks were so politically motivated that they masterminded excuses to give him. History will not be kind to all of this as they will have time to analyze all the fraud theories and the facts of the election.
I don't fault many here that bought into their game. Their actions were so despicable, it was difficult to believe they weren't being reckless.
It was a relatively small number of protesters that got out of hand. One one shot dead. There were no violent deaths caused by the protesters, 3 people (likely protesters) had strokes\heart attacks etc.
What you are doing is no better than anything Hawley has done, lying to create more division.

I agree -- I think the coup 'attempt' is dramatic.
But Trump & folks who spoke to protesters yesterday did incite and encourage 'fighting' and they did so with the hope of overturning the election.
It could have been worse. It was dangerous.
Hindsight can dismiss the event because only one woman was shot and killed, the other three had health issues.
In Missouri, they're calling for Hawley to be removed from the Senate...'he violated his oath of office'...
Sadly, I agree. He embarrassed the state of Missouri with his actions and he is accountable.
He didn't back down, even after everything that happened.
I liked what Lindsey Graham, Mitch McConnell, Mitch Romney and others said during the "debate".
Each state governs their election. It is not the place of Congress to choose who wins.
Lindsey Graham also said that 'if Al Gore can accept his "loss"...' (which really was stolen from him)...
then....

This was a coup attempt. Trump held his rally yesterday morning, a little into the afternoon (iirc), and told his followers to march to the US Capitol to "support the weaker spirited Republicans". Then it turned into this. And he said "We love you" and all this bull****!!!! It was an effort to intimidate the Congress into invalidating the votes of 50% plus Americans!!! It may not have been military Trump used. But it is the functional equivalent of a coup attempt. At the very, very minimum, it was an insurrection. Either way, the Pro-Trump side are the true traitors.

I don’t disagree, but also in large part it was just another display of the need for ego stroking by a narcissist who can’t grasp that not everyone loves him. His cult followers are the perfect patsies to show him some “love” and make him feel better about his loss by doing his bidding. He’s unhinged and has sadly unhinged a small group of folks with his delusional claims.
If Hawley ever had aspirations for running for higher office, they are gone now. Cruz and Hawley might be popular with Trumpists, but that population isn’t enough to win and is growing smaller by the hour.
