She may not have been the intended target at all. In that kind of chaos -- bullets go astray.
This wasn't one officer facing one person.
My heart aches for her family.
But she put herself there. She most certainly was part of the mob.
Would it make you feel better if she was a big burly guy who was seemingly more aggressive?
It was a horrible accident during chaos.
If you are going to excuse officers shooting folks in the back as they run away or are getting in their car -- please don't go after an officer who has a mob coming towards them.

Ah, I get it now. All of these insurgents would have simply turned around and left the building if only someone would have given them the orders to do so. Because they were POLITE insurgents, right?
Give me a break. This women knew full well what she was doing. She got exactly what she should have expected for attempting to overthrow the government. Zero sympathy that she died for her sedition.

I watched multiple videos of the woman getting shot inside the Capitol building. She was unarmed, she was not attacking anyone, so why was she shot? The officer who shot her could have easily detained and arrested her instead of shooting her to death.
Ashli Babbitt, the woman who was murdered by the officer in cold blood, was a military veteran from San Diego.
A couple of broken windows does not warrant shooting someone to death.
Conservatives are suppose to stand for personal responsibility. She put herself in that situation. No one forced her to join a mob that pushed back officers, broke through barricades, a mob that was searching for people in anger. A mob that included people in combat gear with backpacks loaded with who knows what.
What was she expecting? An interview to determine her intentions? Coffee and cake? Outrage should be directed to the cowards Trump, Giuliani and Don Jr. who egged them on while staying safe and warm in hiding.
It was easy for Trump and friends to hype up all this overturn the election stuff. They had no intention of participating in anything more than hypin gup the crowd.
That young lady died because she believed them.
Now we find out - it was all made up to ease Trump's feelings about losing.

In fact, the police removed the barricades and allowed the protesters to enter the building in the first place, it's on video. Why would the police do that?
The whole incident seems like it was staged somewhat, as if they wanted them to enter the building. Not saying it was right, but why would the police remove the barricades and wave the protesters on in into the Capitol building?
There is a video linked in another thread in this forum where you can see her trying to climb through a broken window or door while police right behind her and on the other side of the door (as well as other protesters) tell her to stop repeatedly. It'll be interesting to see what the investigation reveals, but it's likely that there were still members of Congress on the other side of that door and that's why she was shot. I'm not sure what convinced her to keep going, but it's a shame she died.
The whole thing wasn't staged. The police were vastly outnumbered, and as a rule, not escalating is a safer approach for both police and protesters. Especially after earlier riots and protests last spring and summer, Law Enforcement Agencies are instructed to avoid conflict if at all possible. In this case, no amount of pushback from the small police force on hand would have stopped the thousands protesters from entering the building. So it's safer to allow them to proceed and hope it remains civil until reinforcements can arrive and end it or it ends on its own. In this scenario, it was probably the only move they could make. The bigger question is why wasn't there more of a law enforcement/security presence around the Capitol yesterday?
