I am not seeing this question asked enough, and am definitely not seeing the answer to why this was done. Has anyone heard why they did this?

You have not been watching the news then. There have been questions on that and in fact the Democrats are asking for a review on what happened and on the actions of the officers.

they were probably scared to death..there wasn't nearly enough of them..none of them had on riot gear..there was absolutely no leadership..I can't find fault with what they did..it would be like you trying to hold off a group of 50 angry fired up men by yourself..heads are gonna roll..the top cop already resigned..as he should..he should have been fired..did Nancy Pelosi fire a couple of the top cops too?

A former government security specialist explained that. When outnumbered with no apparent help coming soon, it was better for them to avoid a losing confrontation and let them pass. At that point they were not expecting them to break windows and go inside, just to occupy the steps.

Well security guards are just people like anybody else. There must of been some Trump supporters among them who wanted them to get through the gate. Possibly they were working with the Neo Nazis that broke in. Intelligence needs to investigate how deeply these security guards were working with the rioters.

Yep...that is a theory that is certainly very much a true fact.

Well....
Since we have two sides,
1: police are being retrained in tolerance of the crowds. The 'lets see their side' and not do the knee jerk reaction of shoot first.
So there is this new group of officers playing 'nice' .
Then we have:
2: the high ups who are having ego issues:
The nope, we got this attitude. Don't need your help. Though the national guard days before offered to assist.
The FBI knew from scanning media (;you know that bad , terrible resource common man uses to gather current facts/and or alternative facts). Yup they knew and tried to get the capitol keystone cops to accept the guards help. They refused.

So given that perfect storm and the help of Trump to see clearly this flaw, he turned the hate up a notch and set amass a swarm of misguided protesters. Surely 99% of them voted for him. So they were all trump supporters.

The police had toothpick barriers and the lay low let this 'cough' ,passive and mild , meek citizens have their say.

And say they did.

The police did what trump wanted...stand down. We got this ! Smash, bang. Fear.

This doesn't sound like BS to you? It does to me.

I guess the OP hasn't watched the footage of this event. The Capitol police took a stand at the entry, but they were woefully outnumbered and pathetically armed. The police officer that fired the shot killing one of the terrorists just had a handgun. Attackers quickly overran them, beating one of his fellow officers to death with a fire extinguisher.

At that point, the Capitol police moved to securing our lawmakers - we can assume that's the protocol. Once the building is breached, protect our elected Representatives at all cost. After all, it's just a building, a structure. We can construct a new Capitol building if needed.

There is little doubt that the attackers knew what they were up against - anyone could have gotten information about how the Capitol is defended and the sort of arms that they carry.

Once you get outside the military and the FBI and the Secret Service, our Federal government is pathetically inept. So this is not surprising at all that the terrorists quickly breached the defenses.
