Just read Mama Nancy is kicking butt and taking names. Hopefully we'll get our impeachment. Wonder how it will be viewed when it goes to the Senate and they do nothing?

Pat Toomey (High likelihood. PA-not running for re-election in 2022. Likely to going back to private sector)
Lisa Murkowski (most likely. Likely running for re-election in 2022)
Mitch McConnell (60%. He's shrewd, but has some principles at the end of the day.)
Tim Scott (55%. Spoke at Trump's Convention but if he wants to run for President one day and be attractive to minorities like himself, he'd vote for impeachment this time)
Marco Rubio (50/50. Likely running for re-election in 2022)

Good list, thank you! What about North Carolina, almost purple? Both Sen. Tillis and Burr voted to certify Biden.

They can't "do nothing." They have to vote on it. Schumer will want to hold off until Ossoff and Warnock are seated.

Can they still impeach after the 20th? Is there such a thing?

Yes. They can vote to impeach and convict after he leaves office if they want to.

Impeachment = we accuse him of committing high crimes and misdemeanors.
Senate vote = He is guilty (or not).

Republicans are wavering. Two House Reps have announced they will support impeachment.

Even if he is impeached and not removed there is a great deal of satisfaction in knowing he will be the ONLY president impeached twice. It further cements his miserable reputation.

How many will vote to convict?

Zero.

It won't get that far. Republicans have no spine. Even after the riots that Trump incited, some senators STILL objected to the Electoral Votes in AZ and PA. And a majority of the GOP in the House did as well (they aren't involved in conviction though).

Republican Senators will say things like:
- Trump didn't really mean it
- We don't know for sure if Trump incited this or it just was a rally that got out of hand
- The people decided his fate, yes yes we tried to overturn it anyway, but you'll still vote for me in 2022 right?
- We need to see more evidence. No no, we don't WANT to see more evidence. So we'll acquit.

Impeachment is a defunct political process now. It will never end in conviction. Even if Trump had another 6 months in office, we won't see 17 Republican Senators convict him of a possible coup or dereliction of duty (he is supposed to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States and the Electoral Counting process is part of the Constitution).

Is that your honest estimate? I'm guessing the Senate vote tally will be around 55-45 to remove, a majority but not two-thirds.

The articles of impeachment are probably a done deal in the House. Some of the GOP senators are looking for cover after supporting the SOB for four years so they might vote to convict -- it really has no effect this close to inauguration other than to get on record. It is less than 2 weeks away and Trump is not just a lame duck but the unspoken truth is that he's a dead duck...and starting to smell. He is fast becoming a PINO. But, such a vote also shows that voting earlier not to convict in the first trial was probably the wrong decision and many won't want to fess up to that. It is pretty clear that had he been removed we would likely be in a better place today -- but the first impeachment was botched and rushed.

I think an impeachment later would trash Trump's political ambitions and many GOP Senators with a hope of salvaging a rational Republican Party (and placating donors) would go along with it.
