Most people who support Trump do so from an evangelical Christian perspective and there is a sentiment that if it takes a strongman to force America back to Christ, then so be it.
However, Trump will turn on even them at the end. Trump isn't a Christian and will destroy anyone who gets in his way. He only does the will of the Christian Right because they are his most steadfast supporters.
Certainly, some do. But I don't think most do for that reason. I think the majority of them after seriously listening to crazy far right political fanatics, like Alex Jones, quite deeply fear America is going to fall due to socialism, Marxism, communism, defunded police, gun grabs and other stuff. Probably, though, many Evangelical Theocrats fear, likewise. At least Alex Jones is taking some responsibility for what he caused by telling his listeners to stay away from the state capitols this weekend. If there is any major trouble, Trump and his supporters will get all the blame.

Please try to be civil here, this is not meant to be against Trumpers, they as we are entitles to their opinions, it is still a free country.
History has shown that Dictators and Wanna be dictators do not really care about their supporters. They are only concerned in their Power and ability to generate tremendous financial gain. I will not go into details about these folks there is plenty of data and example of these people, both successful and otherwise in the history books. If you are interested look them up.
Power and ability to generate tremendous financial gain are always the common denominators. They do NOT care in the slightest about the well being of their supporters, in fact they often persecute them when they realize the errors of their ways and stray from the fold.
For me, a real conservative who voted for Maggi Thatcher in the UK. when I listen to Trump, Biden, Bush I, Reagan and Obama talk there is a real difference. Trump does not sound like an educated professional (This is not necessarily a bad thing), for the most part his language does not seem be articulate, he talks in bullet points, and 90% of the time he is bragging about something, it is all about himself and how wonderful he thinks he is, not to mention the untruths that he continually pitches. At least that is the way it comes across, inciting negativity. These are typical traits of Dictators and wanna be dictators. The others seem more articulate and positive, in speeches they rarely talk about themselves.
Back to the Title. I do not understand why hardcore Trumpers do not get this.

Not sure who "we" is, but, more than 70-million of us have a different perception. Honestly, some of your presumed assumptions sound like little more than media talking points. What evidence do you have that these presumptions are true? -- Follow the money and tell me who is getting rich at the public trough!
Frankly, I think the most dangerous institution in America is a media that only seems able to grasp what THEY 'think people should believe,' instead of one based on facts and truth.
Like many, I did not care much for Trump's rhetoric, but, he did an amazing job of actually trying to keep the promises upon which he was elected .... more so than any 'politician' I've seen in my lifetime. Also, although the media and Dems kept screaming lies, I found more truth in many of the things Trump said, than what appeared to be the corrupted actions and words of the leading Dems. and media.
I also believe, based on some established facts (ie; 100's of assertations by whistle-blowing election folks), that something totally stinks about the 2020 election. It simply doesn't make sense and I believe the facts will come-out as we move downstream. Nevertheless, the 'election' is what it is so life will move on. Watch! - I bet you will not see anything that approaches the 4-years of hysterical trashing of Trump by the left, ... on the right -- and we've actually got a reason and a case..
"Wannabe dictators" use the restriction of free speech to subdue their constituents, it has happened throughout history.
In case you haven't been paying attention, neither President Trump nor his supporters are the ones moving forward in dictatorial fashion. It is the Left's anger at being held at bay for the past four years from shoving a socialist regime down Americans' throats that fomented so much of the collective anger seen throughout our nation today. Now that they finally have the opportunity, they are banning free speech. Is anyone seriously surprised?

Trump created anxiety, whether it be through distortion with his fear mongering rhetoric, or demonizing that the media is the enemy of the people. His constant promotion of conspiracy theory after debunked conspiracy theory is nothing more than a political calculus that appeals to the emotional thinkers. Those of us that research and debunk them don't fall for that garbage. That mentality appeals to the hate fueled that want to believe what they want to believe. It seems cult like to me and we see many people fall under the spell of a charismatic cult leader. What makes them do it while others see through it?
Another segment of the Trump base is the right to lifers who will look the other way as long as they get Roe v Wade over turned. I have a friend like that. "I know he's a bad man but we have to save those babies." It's a tad on the fringe thinking and fanatical. Much like selling your soul to the devil for that one thing you covet most. You develop this pin point myopic thinking.
There's the low information that only watch one media, and to be fair, that exists on both sides. My husband is a classic example of an emotional thinker that only wants to hear the bad about Trump. The flip side of the coin is the gas lighting and certain media that lie and promote conspiracy theories. People start to believe it, and you can't convince them to read anything else.
Our neighbor is a classic example of voting with the cult of personality. "I love everything about him and I could listen to him all day." Well what exactly do you like? "Everything." So in other words he's my boy and he can do no wrong. Tribal.
There are those more affluent that only care about making more money and loved the tax break. There are those that loved the deregulation. Who cares about the environment as long as I'm making more money.
Trump tapped into the left behind and they believed that he would be their savior. Desperation makes you grab at anything or anyone who lies to you, yet you still want to believe it. What other choice do you have?
Trump is brilliant at manipulation. I have to say he's the most brilliant con man I've ever seen. He had the potential to be a great president. He did bring back 6 million manufacturing jobs. He did a great job with the USMCA. There is some good there, but character matters, and Trump gets a zero. His lies about the pandemic just erased all of those jobs and even more. It cost tens of thousands unnecessary deaths. There are still mask less morons out there spreading it because they believe Trump over science. Tribal thinkers just look past that. The hate for the other side dictates that they have to embrace evil as long as it's not the other side, and that's sad.

Trump dives into the deepest and darkest fears in interior of their mind, and blasts it out loud: Black and brown people, foreigners, are getting at the piece of pie that should be mine, mine. They are more educated than me, they have big jobs and make more money. They are buying all the big houses. My kind is getting replaced. I want to go back to the 50’s when we are allowed to be just ignorant and white and that was cool. MAGA!
